Took 101 on accident one time. Took me almost twice as long.

I vote for I-5, but I'm game regardless.

For those of you that decide on the I-5 route, I can meet up. Not sure if I'll be going down on Friday but I will be available for those of you who would like to prep your car before the climb up the hill. I don't have parts but do have access to tons of tools and a car lift.

126 is at Magic Mountain, allmost into LA. That is 1 hour south of the Grapevine(Bakersfield) in a car. From Bakersfield to Camarillo, towing an enclosed trailer I-5 to 126 to 101 to Camarillo is my usual run for the PCA auto-X each year.Slow up the Grapevine. 2 1/2 hours in a car(not a porsche).
I-5 and 126 is the fastest. 101 is the most interesting from your area.

QUOTE
I may need to hire/rent a single or multicar trailer and a tow vehicle to transport the car down south? This gets complicated really quickly when you consider that we will be bouncing around from local to local over several days.

Chris et al,
I got a quote to tow up to 10 cars (two levels of 5) there and back on the third day for $400 ea. This could cost less than the cost of gas, truck rental if you don't have one, and trailer rental if you don't have one. I need to confirm he will take us to both events. I'll post this separately...

No leader as of yet. Let's try to agree on a start time so everyone taking 101 can meet up in San Jose. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) There should be another meeting place for the I5 group...

As some one who drives from Northern California down to Ventura a few times a year, the rout I prefer is this:

I5 to Old River road, Old River Road to hwy 166, hwy 166 to hwy 33, hwy 33 to Ventura. It's the fastest, shortest route I have found so far. You can easily save about an hour taking hwy 33 vs 126, plus it is a fun curvy road through the mountains. 33 is not patrolled, and 166 is rarely patrolled (All the times I have been on that stretch of road I have only seen one SUV local cop, no chippies)

HTH,
-Kevin

Parts of 33 have been closed because of damage from the recent heavy rains. I don't know how long it will take to reopen so you should check with CHP before counting on this route. Just a heads up.

So I don't hear anyone talking about going down 1 along the coast. Yeah it's longer about (1hr 25 minutes) but you can't beat the view or the fun drive. Any takers?

So it looks like we need a game plan for this caravan.

Route?

Meeting locations/dates/times...?

So when do I need to jump on this 914Train in or near San Jose?

It appears that most want to drive down 101. There are those from the PNW and from the Central Valley that will come down I5. Some may drive down along the coast. I will focus planning the 101 route with a starting location in San Jose. For those that want to start or join at that juncture, I will post a date/time/location. It will most likely be at a gas station/coffee shop. We can plan one or two stops along the way and other supportive methods in order to maintain a formation... Looks like you are the San Jose contact Felix...thanks for stepping up.

So it looks like we need some place for 20-30 cars to round-up at a coffee/bathroom stop. Someplace right off 880 or 101 between say McCarthy Ranch and the golf course in south SJ where we had the WCC04 meet. Any ideas for places?

Where will the caravan be staying the night before and when do they anticipate getting to San Jose? Or are they even coming to San Jose and simply going straight down I-5 from Sacramento? We would then need to rendezvous in the Central valley somewhere. We could still go there as a Bay Area contingent.

hmmm.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)
