Some days I know people are looking at me contorting into my car.so what I do is back up to seat and sit down then swing my legs over.i have a boxster and getting into that is far less embarrassing.whats your technique

I definitely get out by putting my left palm onto the sill and swing legs out. Getting in to any sports car is the same in principle: it is an act of faith, mainly involving aligning the back of the driver with the back of the seat and letting gravity take over. The faith being the landing will be OK. You moderate the fall with your back and maybe a leg in the foot well. I have noticed that this free fall into the seat is quite unsettling for many. They don't have the faith.

Right foot in, mash my ass against the back of the seat and slide down using my right leg to lower me onto the seat, then left foot in.
Getting out I put my hand on the top of the rocker, left leg out and lift out with my arm and leg.
I'm 6'2" and this works in my 944 too. This is a technique I learned from Magnum PI.....

Same as Mike. Having the 12" diameter Sparco wheel doesn't hurt either...

This is the most tortured thing I've seen in a while. Really, we have to ask how to get in our car? Time to move this to the sandbox and give it a proper burial. Oof.

Can't figure out how to get in your car. Frumble rulble mulble shss pshh. stupid. Get a limo. Racka fracka, nimble nonsense.

I first do a 'dukes of hazard' slide across the hood. Momentarily pause to make sure everyone in the parking lot saw me and is still looking. If some quit looking I scream and holler at the closest person to draw a crowd. Then I ease my way in right foot first while connecting my eye socket with the sharpest point of the wing window. Then I do the 'trust the seat will be there' ass drop while swinging in the left foot. Now that I have the crowd's attention I drop the hammer and chirp the wheels with my ice cold 2.0 air cooled fury. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I saw a news clip years ago on this very subject sans the 914. The doctors said butt 1st then swing in the legs. Less chance of aggravating the back. I know Ron loves poles so maybe he'll start one. I'm with Worn on exiting. Palm on the sill area.

we are turning into the wine and cheese crowd we used to make fun of
we used to laugh at PCA, now we can't stop with their praise

We used to call ourselves "cheap" and find ways to remain so
now we brag about the high prices of parts.

With a full rollcage and race seats, butt first then swing legs over is about the only way possible.

The easy way.

Steering wheel off
1. Right leg in
2. Left hand on the door jam
3. Left arm straight, weight on both left arm and right leg
4. swing left leg in
5. Continue on the arc until butt is directly over the Momo
6. Drop down with authority
7. Harness-in

Extraction is precisely the reverse of the above... which you'll need because either:

8. you've left the steering wheel hanging inside the house / on the workbench, or
9. JT or Clay have hidden your steering wheel or
10. you forgot to engage the battery-cutoff key and you've already harnessed-in, realizing the red key and GPS, which you use as a speedo are both in the glove box, that you can't reach... because you're harnessed-in.
___________________________________________________________________
The hard way:

Steering wheel is on

Steps 1 - 3 above work. The rest are a pipe dream and the scene is hard to describe. That's because the approach window is only about 3 arc-minutes tall, and 5 wide, at a 10 degree downslope. Then,

Harness-in.
Then realize step 10 is appropriate because you forgot to engage the battery-cutoff key and you've already harnessed-in, realizing the red key and GPS, which you use as a speedo are both in the glove box, that you can't reach... because you're harnessed-in.

Once in, you have to deal with the tongue-cramp, and the agony brought on by the entire process.

See a pattern? It's like that. I'd post a video but it'd be far too embarrassing.

I'm 41, 5.9, 180 Lbs. I have knee issues on right knee from running a marathon a few years back (6 years but don't tell anyone). As a result, I schooch my ass in first and plop down like a good geriatric patient and swing my legs in afterwards. Damn I'm old. But....

When I get the engine started I feel like I'd rather be old and own a 914 than young and walking. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). Pathetic,...yeah.
