If you are part of the Caravan down I-5 from WA, OR and points north, be sure to make your April 21 reservation at the Microtel (Lodi, CA) online at www.microtelinn.com or by calling 1-888-771-7171. You want the "spring fling" rate. If you wait until you get there you will pay more. You can cancel prior to 6pm with no penalty.

If you want to reserve a room at the Sweetbrier Inn in Tualatin, OR (I-5, exit 289) for April, 20 call 1-800-551-9167.

Three weeks from tonight we will be "stuck in ol' Lodi again".

I regret that with all that I have going on this year I cannot take time out to go to WCC.

But I do have something to offer. I live in the Sacramento area. I have quite a large lot and if some of you guys caravaning through would like to pitch a tent or crash on the floor you are welcome.

This is something to think about if anyone breaks as well. I do have more than a couple of tools though I am more of a physiology guy than a mechanic.

PM or email if this interests any of you.

Is there anywhere else close to the Microtel Inn to stay? I just called to reserve and they are full. Mike will have 3 passengers now, btw.

I learned of Microtel by calling a Best Western in Lodi, which is 7 miles east of I-5 on 99.. I asked if there was a motel out on I-5. They said only the Microtel. I'm sure there are likely motels at every exit ramp but I don't know how to locate them.
Do a google search for "Lodi CA motel" and 3 in Lodi will come up.
Also, call the Microtel direct (209-367-9700) to confirm they are full (I find it hard to believe that they would be booked on a Thurs night 3 weeks in advance. Ask them to recommend a motel close by.

Kevin, do you have a room yet? Maybe we will need to find another place to stay if Craig and I have the only room there.

Edit: Guess you answered my question Kevin. What plans have been changed every day?

I called the direct number and they confirmed no vacancies.
I got one at the Viking Motel, $70 if anyone else is interested. It's pretty close to the Microtel Inn. Not sure what it's like, (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif) but as long as there's beer around there I'll be happy. Kevin, I posted the Microtel info. at 1pm Tuesday. You responded to the thread at 6 pm that day, but apparently didn't read my earlier post.

I found a LaQuinta at Stockton I-5 exit, 15 miles farther south. About same price ($69.25 plus tax) but not sure how many rooms they have. The Super 8 at the same exit is full according to internet. Do a google search, "Stockton CA motel".

Dan, you might try the Stockton La Quinta too. Post here if you succeed. If several of you find a room there, Craig and I can change, however I don't know if any others got rooms at Microtel.

Actually and ironically, Lodi the city is closer to 99 than it is to I 5. Ironic because I 5 is the bigger highway. The area of Lodi closest to I 5 is more rural and was a number of vineyards, and I am not talking about beautiful tourist type vineyards. Think more pure ag area. (this area of the central valley is trying to cash in on the popularity of Napa/Sonoma wine) The area of Lodi near 99 is much more populated and has the services. You guys might consider either continuing on to Manteca, Stockton, or Modesto, or stopping in Sacramento as options. Lodi is as its mention by Fogerty in the '70s song, not a place you want to spend too much time.

Avoid taking 99 if you are in tight suspended teener. It is bumpier.

By the way, put your gas masks on when driving I 5 through the Lodi Stockton corridor. Those piles on the properties just off the freeway are pure bovine excement, and that ain't no BS. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

Any help I can provide just let me know...

Lancaster is only about a 5-6 hour drive from Sacramento if your going to jam. I used to do it all the time when I was attached to NASA at Edwards AFB. CHP is on an enforcement kick right now so do keep each other informed.

So, the Viking it is for us. Has anybody else booked at the Microtel yet? It would be cool if we were all at the same hotel, but it sounds like we're only about a block away. Definitely stumbling distance. Like Dan said, as long as there's beer somewhere in the area, we'll be ok.

You are east of I-5 about 7 miles. Microtel is on I-5 at highway 12/Lodi exit. Chances of better food and beer are greater where you are.
Sounds like Microtel is within nose distance of the feed lots!

The Viking Motel didn't require a credit card number to hold the room, so if we find something better along the way we can ditch the Viking easily. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)
I don't really care where we stay, we'll be the followers on this trip so as long as we can catch up with somebody in the morning we'll be okay.
We seem to have a habit of going on cross-country road trips without a map. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

"hello, viking hotel". "hi, i'd like to make a reservation". " the viking hotel doesn't take reservations". "i can't prepay for a room?". "when did you want to stay here?". "next month.". "we have lots of rooms." wtf, since they don't take reservations i bet they do (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif) i bet there's bullet proof glass at the check-in desk, and the continental b-fast sucks too. i wish folks from pakistan/india/etc would learn to speak a little slooooower. the viking is already in the rearview mirrior.

Isn't this where you are staying? (A)

Dan,

We are staying at "A" according to the phone number listed but there is no A on the map. It should be located at the intersection of I-5 and 12. Viking is on or near 99 which is about 7 miles east of 5.

Kevin,

Tell me you mean the 20th!

Microtel is just off the freeway on the southeast side. Nearest semblance of civilzation and I say this loosely is 5 miles to the East on 12 toward Lodi. At Microtel you are surrounded by truckstop heaven. Bring your own beer and stumble between each others rooms.
