Take Kevin up on the offer Rich. Seattle to Stockton in one day in a 914 will be a killer. Maybe in a modern cruise controlled car but not a 914. Do you have a bed reserved at the LaQuinta Inn in Stockton? That's where we will spend Thursday night. Although maybe you can bunk with Kevin/Al there too.

Camp 914 is at exit 10 on 205 and then south about 4 miles. It is 10 more miles west to I-5 and then a mile or less to the Tualatin exit and Sweetbrier. I stayed there many times before I moved to Portland, but that was 20 years ago. It is adjacent to the freeway so noise is probably an issue for some people. If you can, ask for a room on "the garden side".

If you go to the motel first you will backtrack 10 miles. However, you may not be able to check in until 3-4pm. If so, that makes the decision for you. If you are arriving mid-day and want to go to the motel first, I would stay on I-5 all the way to exit 289. It is a few miles shorter than 205. During evening rush 205 is better.

QUOTE (boxstr @ Jan 7 2005, 09:26 AM)
Okay I guess we might as well get the Pacific Northwest and all areas North of Calif. on standby for the exodus to WCC 2005 in Camarillo Calif. For those who are going and would like to caravan down now is the time to start getting a plan together.
Jim Chambers and I drove down last year and it made thing a little more relaxing, knowing that if you had some trouble you weren't alone (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) . And then driving back we added Kevin RHODYGUY Powers to the mix. So this year if you are driving down and want to caravan with others who have the same disease, love of 914s, then speak up. Lets get together for the WCC 2005.
Mapquest shows that from Lake Oswego, Oregon it is a 14 hour drive down I5 to Camarillo. This is pretty straight forward untilk you get down near Ventura the 405,205, and 999, after you take the 584 onramp, merge with the 203 and then turn at the 987, heading North you will ....anyway you get the idea.
So speak up. All of thsoe who are coming from the NORTHWEST.
CCLINMAPQUEST

I haven't read every post regarding the trip many of you wil be making, but wanted to comment that the Mapquest estimated 14 hrs. from Lake Oswego to Camarillo is well, pretty optimistic. I did the drive to Gande Ronde, OR (near morphenspectra) which is southwest of LO, several times from Van Nuys,CA. Best ET was 14 1/2 hrs durring a non-stop (except gas and eats) bullet run at mostly 95MPH through CA, slowed to 85MPH in OR, back in the early '70's (just before I bought my '73). Basically had my foot in the carburetor the whole way.

i saw that on the map jim. just trying to plan the afternoons activities and see what others have in mind. I-5 through portland isn't my favorite strech of asphalt. i'll check on that garden side matter. andy, we're stopping south of stockton for the night i think. gilroy, day 2 mid morning, and down to camarillo. i'm just gong to follow the trail of oil on the pavement.

Not sure of Craig's schedule but I suspect he will be at Camp all day. The Canadians expect to stay in Spokane Tue. night and make Camp Wednesday afternoon.

Yup, hoping to be at Camp914 some time in the early afternoon. Map Quest says 5 1/2 hours from Spokane to Portland. Not too bad for a days drive. Looking at MapQuest, it looks like we'll be going through Hood River on the way. Anybody know if thats true? Hood River is one of my favorite places, so we may have to make a quick stop there.

Fixed it Kevin.

Mike you will go by Hood River on I-84. There are two or three exits into town.
If you are into large water falls stop at Multnomah Falls, a bit west of Hood River. The parking lot is a left lane exit from I-84. Worth a stop. Was once the most visited tourist site in Oregon. Now replaced by the Spirit Mountain Indian Casino!

Jim,
Are you collecting or getting numbers from the SF Bay Area caravaner's? Why don't you publish a list of who's number you have?

Less than 3 days until we start the journey! I can't wait, now that things finally seem to be falling into place. I sent you an email, Jim about the car.

I haven't booked a room for us in Spokane yet, does anyone recommend a decent place to stay in the area for Tuesday night?

yes, you will go through hood river. pay no attention to the free brewery tour signs as you pass through. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) do stop at multnoma falls. do stay on the path.
