I like Jeff's plan. Very doable from Portland on Thursday. And it avoids I-5 with 2-ton SUV's doing 80+ and the fragrance of the feed lots (we will have that experience on the way home from Lancaster). Take a close look at Jeff's map of I-5. You will note nary a named spot on the higway, only occasional off-ramps. In an air conditioned sedan with cd's in the changer it's not all that bad. A 914 is a whole 'nother story.

Us Canadian boys won't be rolling in any 914s. We'll be bringing my S4 down. AC, CD player, leather, it should be a pretty comfy ride. Unless Dan happens to buy a 914 at CAMP914. Then the Audi will be a support vehicle. We should have a full compliment of tools with us in case of any break downs.

The track day should be fun! 3 of us with helmets all piled in to the Audi for a few hotlaps! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

You have good taste in cars. My "real" car is an A6. Had lots of Audis over the years.
Make sure Dan looks at my 914 for sale when he's here.

I'll make sure and let Dan know. He's hoping to pick something up when we're down there.

I love my S4, a great highway cruiser, and for a big car it handles pretty decent. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif)

we have lots of options on alt routes. we will need to know road conditions. i would prefer to avoid combat zones where there may have been slides. if it doesn't stop raining, who knows for sure.

Eric, just tell your professors that their priorities are all screwed up and you'll turn in the papers when you get back. Isn't that what the jocks do?

i'll keep the north of the border chat in here. it would not be surprising to get a late blast of snow in the syskious. then the grants pass route would be required. fun drive!! that long canyon dropping to cresent city is fun, going down 101 is good too esp that climb over the coastal range with the 4 lanes and banked corners, and having to drive the avenue of the giants would not nessesarily be a bad thing. longer but fun. the a.g. goes right by ft bragg too. Now you're talkin' a 914 road trip. If we had sense (and money for food and another motel night) that would be the way to go. Home on I-5 would be enough of that road.

i love that whole area. try 96 or 299 sometime. they don't go very far in a straight line but i'll take you hours to get there. we could leave wed, i'm flexable (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) and still get to camarillo on fri.

Have you all decided on where you'll cross over so the SF contigent can plan a link in Gilroy or Paso Robles?

i'm sure we will be looking at maps wed at camp. we should know fri after breakfast. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) the cottage grove idea seemed to add a bit more driving than i thought. i still think we should shoot for stockton, request wake up calls and hit it early. are any californicators, not from the coast, planning on hooking up with us slugs fri am?

Elk Grove (aka Cottage Grove) is no that big of a town. Better hotel rates in Sacramento. We would be close enuogh to the freeway to not get hung up in to much traffic.
I vote for overnight in Sac stay at the Doubletree and head out the next day early. And then hook up with the people from the North West in Gilroy.
