Rebuilt means something different to you. If you want all parts changed that do not need them, you go right ahead. I believe I speak with some authority, and have been involved from the beginning with this particular transmission, before the original owner died. You are wrong. Your assertion is wrong. At best, it is a difference in opinion of what is needed to be done to a transmission and what constitutes rebuilt. That is a discussion for another post as the box was not touted as having all new parts. My methods and practices are transparent, well known, and the box was not misrepresented in level of finish nor price.

A blanket statement of, " you won't get a rebuilt transmission...at least not one that had anything done to it aside from looking at it." is fucking retarded.

I am at work so have not had time to read through all the posts yet, but to the OP: Contact me. I would be glad to help you be whole for little or no money. The main thing I am interested in is your car on the road with a good transmission that I built. That was what you were expecting, lets make it happen.

This is what you expect from a stand-up guy.

You're the man, Doc. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

This Courtney dude is a scumbag. Period

To say he's ok because he treated those who showed up at his house or put some event together but screwed those on the web is bullshit. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bs.gif)

You are either reputable or not. There's no in between.

Along these lines, I never deal with anyone with low post counts.

Once I bought a complete 5-lug suspension off Ebay for $450. I told the guy I will send no money but will show up at his house with cash. I got to his house, loaded the goods into the trunk and handed him 9 $50s.

-I have absolutely no skin in this one at all but have some thoughts

-there is an implied contractual obligation for this transaction and most likely some type of written correspondence to concur, the problem may be what was really "owed" to the buyer, if there was not exact details supplied "rebuilt" can mean anything

-I love the idea of 100 mile relay to get him a trans and get him back on the road, way cool count me in if it is within a couple of hours of coming past my way

A $650 transmission is not rebuilt...

...The math just does not add up to me...

A rebuilt Type 4 motor and a rebuilt 911 motor do not have all new parts.

Parts are replaced on an "as needed" basis in an Evil rebuild.

Parts that can be re-used usually are. Good used parts from another donor tranny can be substitute without the expense of buying new and to save expense.

In my opinion, this guy, Courtney, is not the names being thrown around on this site. He has a pretty good reputation in the DC/MD/VA area and recently organized a joint Hershey Swap Meet group of spaces for DC/MD/VA Porsche folks. Check out the Dorkiphus.net website and his name is “slowisfast” and look at the kudos he received for setting up the Hershey activity.

As I and others have said, he has treated us locals fairly. I picked up a transmission at Courtney’s place for Mike (DrEvil) and hauled it down to DrEvil’s clinic at Scott’s place in Feb although I don’t know who that one was for. I have a feeling Courtney will make good on any deal he has made and think he may be just a bit overwhelmed. Give him a bit more time. He has a bunch of stuff and a bunch of cars at his place – kind of an eclectic mix.

Prepare to be called names now Rob (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Actually, i lost money to someone just like Scotty describes. Otherwise ok, but not up to holding their end when it counted. Why i only buy, not sell...

You could see that isno excuse, except it is exactly that. An excuse. That is a lot of money and cover tactics.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) although as we all see, even this group of friends can get sideways on emotional discussions. This discussion is really now a debate regarding what constitutes a rebuilt 901 (or any motor or part for that matter) and what behavior earns the title of scumbag (and a few others I have forgotten).

My guess; the $650 is painful but not the elephant in the room.

Being professionally ignored after an agreement pisses off anyone. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Not getting the product is simply put, theft.

To enter into an agreement to deliver a 901 for a fee, receive the payment and then refuse to send the product is impossible to overlook in any way but purposively dishonest behavior. Is the guy a scumbag? I don't know him....but....(and the only debate to me) his business transactions which require out of area shipping create a final solution which is dishonest and probably illegal. So regardless of his intentions....(intentions are a small part of a person, actions and results make the man)......he delivers a really terrible experience...if....everything that has been reported is true.

And Doc, when you finally do your Texas clinic, let me know. I have other 914s and another 914-6 whose 901s I would like to check out and freshen up where needed. I also have a core and a complete 901 I could bring for you if you need cores.

Sorry this happens to folks. People can be really bad sometimes....but most are awesome to know and deal with.

There's confusion about the term 'rebuilt'. Think 'reconditioned' as lightest touch, then 'rebuilt', including 'bench rebuilds', which is what the good Doc does, then 'remanufactured', which is what you get in the white box at NAPA, and the highest level of repair. Lots of people use those terms interchangeably, even people who know better, but the meanings are different degrees of the same concept.

Anyone who knows the guy able to get him a message, find out what's going on? I think in the past we've seen discussions similar to this one turn dramatically when we found out the seller had a sudden illness, and once when a seller had a sudden divorce. Better to find out the whole story before we gather with torches and pitchforks. Or rename (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) .

I think it's past time for pitchforks.

Whether it's rebuilt, remanufactured or, reconditioned makes no difference. He was promised something that was supposedly sent to the seller's brother (yeah, right), was supposed to redeliver, and now is not answering messages, same as me and a half a dozen others, all with the same BS story He's been banned from Pelican and The Samba.

And we're waiting for exactly what???

Why tolerate this crap? I really don't get it.

I don't know the guy but I live fairly close to him (pass by that area every Sunday). I'd be happy to stop in and pick up the transmission for ya. We could then do the relay or I could ship it to ya from my place. As an aside, Doc knows me and knows me to follow through with what I say I'll do.
Lemme know if I can help.

David, I will contact ya. I did not realize you were close to him. I was waiting for a day I could drive 8 hours to get there and back to pick up some cores. I have his # and we can probably organize something.

For me, based on comments here. I know who accepts this type of behavior and who doesn't. ...thus if I need a part, I know who to stay away from.
