Hi all
Im going through buckets of old rusty my nuts and bolts swapping for new shiny ones... the collection is growing and Im spending many happy hours (mmm well kind of) wading though the PET and my bags of rusty bots trying to figure out whats what. Anyway nearly there. Just wondered if anyone had any idea what size the plastic rivets are on the sills (part number 999 591 550 40)? They seem to be expensive from AA but I cant help thinking they should be a normal VW part. Also any idea where I can get the ring clips for the front plastic heater boxes? I have some but they are horribly corroded. Any known sources (or substitutes) of the plastic plug covers that go into the various pads inside the cabin to cover the screw holes? Finally the chrome cups for the back pad... again mine are horrible, I cant find anything that looks similar, Im sure I could improvise but I thought Id ask incase anyone else has come across it before.. thanks in advance! Andrew Hmmm.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) 'shandyhaggis' ... sounds like a Rugby playing Scot to me Andrew! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Try posting the parts with parts numbers & pix of yours in the WTB for parts under the Classified Forum. also post this same text over in the Garage, since a lot of folks look at that more than O&H for us CW wankers. Make sure to state whether you're looking for originality & concours perfection, driver quality, etc. at both of those Forums (here we assume originality & top quality CW). A member vendor was doing the replacement interior plastic plugs/screw-caps, but not sure if her still is. If not, then maybe someone else can suggest an aftermarket maker of generic plastic plugs that will work, or else go the great/excl condition used route if your a CW and originality is important, as they're NLA from Porsche. Another member - Tod914 - used to produce & sell the rocker panel plastic rivets in the period correct white & black, but his manufacturer's tooling gave out, so that source dried up a year or so ago. AFAIK Porsche still sells them in clear, since they also get used on that period 911/912, so you can get them for the same or less than AA at your local Porsche dealer. If the UK Porsche Club is like our PCA here, then you may also get a 10-20% discount from the dealers there (IRRC AA buys from Porsche wholesale, then marks up). Some other suppliers to try are our own member vendors (914Rubber, A&P Girl, etc.), plus Sierra Madre Collection, Stoddard's, Einmalig, Ecklers/Performance Products/Automotion, etc. - all are online. I may be having a senior moment of "half-zymers" - but I don't recall any "chrome cups" for the back pad - so maybe post a pic here. Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Tom /////// |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Tom /////// Thanks for that Tom. Ill take some photos over the next few days. Re the chrome cups, I cant find the part number in the PET but they are a 12mm deep, 6mm wide cylinder with a 12 mm flange at one end. I think there are 4, all hidden so I could certainly do without and improvise. My car is a 1976 so I dont know if it was a late alteration. I dont think the pad had been taken off before. SH is an amalgamation of child hood nick names, Shandy was my first pets name and hence I had to use it in the create your porn pseudonym game, sadly it stuck:-) Haggis was given to me as I was born in the North near Scotland and moved south as a child, everyone thought I was scottish and hence Haggis stuck as well. Kids eh:-) thanks again Andrew |

Andrew You didn't state what color rivets you're looking for. White, or black. Tod may still have some black ones. I bought nearly all of his white ones (perfect fit), but gave away/sold a bunch to teeners-in-need. If there were no others available then the clear ones, I'd sooner use a metal rivet. |

Hi Pat black for me. I didnt know they were in different colors for the 914. I think 36 in total are required for the sill cover and the scuff plates. I did think about using a metal rivet - that was my fall back position:-). Ill try and contact Tod to see if he has some he would be happy to part with... thanks Andrew |

I was thinking more a "Shandy" drink - popular after the match to rehydrolize the boy of course, and well Haggis ... speaks for itself as the Scots' "breakfast of champions"! Learning lots but still lots to do. Ive always been an IPA fan rather than Shandy, you cant beat a warm beer with a hoppy aroma and floating solids :-) its an English thing Im sure. Alas I dont get to partake either anymore as I stopped drinking a while ago... still I have plenty of very good memories:-) thanks Andrew |
