Hi all
Im going through buckets of old rusty my nuts and bolts swapping for new shiny ones... the collection is growing and Im spending many happy hours (mmm well kind of) wading though the PET and my bags of rusty bots trying to figure out whats what.
Anyway nearly there.
Just wondered if anyone had any idea what size the plastic rivets are on the sills (part number 999 591 550 40)?
They seem to be expensive from AA but I cant help thinking they should be a normal VW part.
Also any idea where I can get the ring clips for the front plastic heater boxes? I have some but they are horribly corroded.
Any known sources (or substitutes) of the plastic plug covers that go into the various pads inside the cabin to cover the screw holes?
Finally the chrome cups for the back pad... again mine are horrible, I cant find anything that looks similar, Im sure I could improvise but I thought Id ask incase anyone else has come across it before..
thanks in advance!
Andrew
Hmmm....
'shandyhaggis' ... sounds like a Rugby playing Scot to me Andrew!
Try posting the parts with parts numbers & pix of yours in the WTB for parts under the Classified Forum. also post this same text over in the Garage, since a lot of folks look at that more than O&H for us CW wankers. Make sure to state whether you're looking for originality & concours perfection, driver quality, etc. at both of those Forums (here we assume originality & top quality CW).
A member vendor was doing the replacement interior plastic plugs/screw-caps, but not sure if her still is. If not, then maybe someone else can suggest an aftermarket maker of generic plastic plugs that will work, or else go the great/excl condition used route if your a CW and originality is important, as they're NLA from Porsche.
Another member - Tod914 - used to produce & sell the rocker panel plastic rivets in the period correct white & black, but his manufacturer's tooling gave out, so that source dried up a year or so ago.
AFAIK Porsche still sells them in clear, since they also get used on that period 911/912, so you can get them for the same or less than AA at your local Porsche dealer. If the UK Porsche Club is like our PCA here, then you may also get a 10-20% discount from the dealers there (IRRC AA buys from Porsche wholesale, then marks up).
Some other suppliers to try are our own member vendors (914Rubber, A&P Girl, etc.), plus Sierra Madre Collection, Stoddard's, Einmalig, Ecklers/Performance Products/Automotion, etc. - all are online.
I may be having a senior moment of "half-zymers" - but I don't recall any "chrome cups" for the back pad - so maybe post a pic here.
Cheers!
Tom
