I don't think the store will make a difference, since both these rods and the store are brought to you by Jake. What options are there compared to this? Rebuilt rods for $210, plus cores.

plus you can use a std 2.0 crank without getting a special one with chebbie or type 1 rod journals. This is a bargain boys....
Geoff (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rocking nana.gif) Watch, as soon as Jake sells the 50 sets, 3 months later, there will be 20 guys wanting to buy them. |

I had been thinking of building a 2056 and these rods would be perfect but now I'm thinking of moving up to a 2270 or 2316. I just want to see what pricing will be like on a kit from Jake before committing to a 2056. |

I have the same feeling, making me ponder signing up for a 2nd set. Of course Jake has an additional 75 sets besides 'our' 50. |

Once people sign up for 50 sets the problem will be getting them all to pay. Lots of people often say they want in on group buys but getting them to seal the deal always seems to be a problem.

Anthony, I am moving to a 2366cc with the 103mm Nikkies and using the stock 2.0l crank. Should be a rev er as I am too cheap to buy a new crank and rods to set up a 2270.

I wouldn't build a 2270 without the Nikkies. I am too scared of the extra heat!
I am not sure on the exact costs of a 2270 but ya gotta buy..(see Jakes new site) crank-$500 rods-$200 P&Cs CastIron-$650 So say about $1500 for the basic parts, then add the clearancing, fitting, machining etc so another $1000 so $2500 off the top of my head. The nikkies can run $3000 for the complete setup whatever size you get. Pistons, cylinders, case bolts, head studs etc. |

I think I'd be more scared of a 103mm cylinder. Seems huge!

Head sealing is the other problem. Even the 96mm cast iron cylinders can leak/move around. Nikkies stop all that so the 103's work fine. Longer stroke is gud too.
Head work is a must even for a 2056! Plus the cam ($200) and lifters which for ceramics add $400 My budget is $4k and aim for 150+ hp not including the new EFI. Geoff (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) |

A 2270 don't need Nickies!
I have many of them running my cast iron bored German cylinders that run COOLER than a stock 2.0!! Don't be afraid until you get to a bore larger than 96mm.... Or until you can SUSTAIN an 18HP per cylinder load on the engine.. That means for a long period of time at wide open throttle- Like on the Autobahn... Nickies are nice- but definately not required for a 2270, less than 5% of the 2270 engines I have built have received Nickies! The 96mm bore is absloutely universal and I can do more with it than any other bore available.... When my plan here is all domne- there won't be any guesswork.. But you must learn to LISTEN and not QUESTION.... Want power, reliability and longevity?? Listen, open the wallet- Done deal. As for the rods, they will be 350 bucks a set after I meet my initial quota, if the prices stay the same..... I just need enough orders to get them and thats why I'm making them such a great deal. |
