500 P-cars expected in a beautiful venue during Monterey Car WeeK This for-real event is a great opportunity for us non-members, from our non-chapters, to represent the 914world non-club en masse You in? Spectators are free (park across the street for a small fee). Display your P-car in the Corral for $40. Enter the Concours for $60. Pretty easy. You must pre-register online though. Anyone wanting to join me for the trip to Carmel early on Aug 15 is welcome to join a caravan over Highway 17 and down the coast. We will leave from the Home Depot parking lot in Campbell, CA promptly at 6:15am. 480 E Hamilton Ave Campbell, CA 95008 Attached image(s) |

And finally, we get to the Outlaws & competition cars section.
First up is this fabulous engine housed inside the equally fabulous Singer. If you ever wondered what Ferg (Mike Fergusson) looks like, there he is in the blue/gray t-shirt overseeing this beautiful 356. I tried to look this phrase up and I got either a) Awesomely Cool or b) Super Mega Monkey Tits. Mmmmm, I'm kinda thinking it means awesomely cool. Either way, you're looking at a heavily modified 928. Porsche 906. Wow, simply wow. Tom Provasi's GTU racer. Tom Trudell's Suby powered 914. Props to the guys swiggin' beer in the background ... keepin' the 914 mystique alive. Bill Packwood's 914-6 GT. Another ratty 356. I saw this car while driving home. The driver was trying to hold onto a huge sombrero with one hand while driving with the other... what a riot! The winner of the 914 Concours was Bob Schoenherr. Here he is being interviewed during the awards ceremony. Here are some other winners, lining up to form an impromptu winner's circle. Finally, I'll finish off with an artsy fartsy shot of Kathy Nagy's Bumblebee reflected in Bob's mirror finish hup cap. All in all, it was a beautiful day and great event. I can't wait till next year! |
