I have a 1972 1.7. Pulled the engine to fix a few things.

Replaced...

Front crank seal.
Rear main seal.
Clutch
push rod tube seals.
valve cover gaskets.
oil cooler seals.
oil pressure sender.

I still have a oil leak. Oil drips off the bottom off the fan housing. So I pulled the fan back off to check the front seal.( engine still in the car)

The back of the fan is not oily. Where else can it come from? Can I run the engine for a short time without the fan on to look for the leak, without hurting anything?

Thanks for the help......

Thanks for the replies.

I took the fan housing off and started the engine. Found the stupid front crank seal is still leaking.

Is there some trick to this seal? What is the place to get the correct one? Got mine at NAPA, part number matches the one I took out.

It was fairly hard to get the seal in. I wonder if the bore is oblong for some reason.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.
