I just picked up this engine yesterday and after removing the tin and few leaves around it. Here is what I notice with the code.

Can someone verify if this is really 914 1.7 engine for 1971 year?

Thanks again fellow teeners!

Thanks! And yes I did search on that engine info on this site. But it says W is the code for 1971 1.7 but the engine I have not only has W but "WA" where the common 1.7 and 1.8 engine numbers located and below the oil filler neck with numbers I believe are all 2.0 or GC/GA numbers. That is why I'm a little bit confuse on this engine I got. Currently it has tail shifter engine support bar on it.

thanks again!

The 1.7 W blocks were tagged at the back of the case near the tranny hookup...looks like that's where your W is...but I don't see a number in there.

Yes only WA and the number below the oil filler looks like it was tagged in there on top of a numbers underneath. I tried to pull the left side of the tag and I saw Letter "C J" before some numbers but can't get those numbers because of the riveted tag. Well google shows it was "1976-1979 2000cc - European Only".
Do you think it was for a combination of 914 and Type 2 engine combine? The engine bar underneath was for a 914 transmission tail shifter.

thanks for your response!
