I just picked up this engine yesterday and after removing the tin and few leaves around it. Here is what I notice with the code.
Can someone verify if this is really 914 1.7 engine for 1971 year? Thanks again fellow teeners!   |

Here is a picture of the engine serial number of my 1971 W case. It is located in the same place as your marker is pointed in your first picture.
