I was wondering if any of you serious autocrossers have considered changing out the R&P? It seems like it would make a huge difference in how the car accelerates out of the tight bits.
The PO of my car was going to build it as an autox car, and bought a brand new Porsche ring and pinion set, in 6/29 ratio. I don't need it and was thinking someone may be interested?

There is really no good use for this ring and pinion setup. The ratio works out to 4.833:1 vs stock 4.428:1. This is an even lower, meaning stump-puller, ratio. It might be useful for a hill climb/rock crawler. The REAL reason that it is not practical for long term use is the fewer pinion teeth. It tends to wear out much more quickly.

It has value in SCCA Improved Touring where gear changes are not allowed but R&P changes are allowed.
The stock gears are too tall for racing, even with a low rpm engine like stock.
The short R&P gives a roughly 10% rpm increase at any given speed.
