That's just selfish! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) Pulling the plug on a completely meaningless thread like that....the OT'est of all OT's......and just when it was getting interesting.

Zois Av thread comes up every couple of months and its really pathetic that so much energy is spent on it. I think MZ just does it for attention, they certainly have nothing to do with 914s, which should be the focus of this forum.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)

Zois changed his avatar in the end anyway, so whats the point? 5000 posts was a waste of time and effort, lets not even pay attention in the future. He will do it again soon so be ready for it.

BTW, Kermit is Bay Area local Howard Y...a very fine AXer, concours participant and long time Ravenna green 914 fan...you guys have succeeded in bashing yet another fine 914 owner...all in the name of 'free speech'. Nothing against MZ personally, but those who defend his choice of offensive avatars (and others like him) are the losers, and you do a huge dis-service to the 914 community by tarnishing the image of this site. Standing around a garage talking about 914s is one think, but the conversations and behaviour go in the trash way too often.

I hope Howard Y stays around in spite of your intimidation, he is a great guy and a high caliber 914 owner. There are others equal to his stature who have not returned to this site becasue of the prejudgement and animosity promulgated here. You don't even know the guy.

Well, the thread is back now, (Thank you Lawrence) and I would like for everyone to read back through it. Jeff, you are making a general statement to everyone here on the board unfairly. I never once said anything bad about Kermit there or any other thread. I was merely supporting Mike's choice of expression. This is a garage as you say it and that means there is a door. There is a way for him to turn off the avatars in his own garage, nobody has the right to come into say my garage and tell me what I can or cannot post on the walls. That thread only got out of hand because everyone feels so strongly about it one way or another. It seemed to me, the general consensus was for MikeZ's avatars. You cant really generalize a statement like that towards everyone when it only applies to a few. Granted, those few know who they are and I agree they shouldnt have bashed on Kermit like that, he has the same right to free speech as any one of us does. That is their right and perogative. That is all I have to say.

Think about what you are saying and who it will effect before making a post in a public forum.

QUOTE (Sammy @ Feb 4 2005, 08:04 AM)
Jeff, most if not all of the negative posts towards our little green friend came after he posted that some of us should F-off and after he posted an order for Mikey to "change his stupid avitar", basically he asked for it. Like I tell the people working for me at what I sometimes call my day-care center for adults, how you say it is as important as what you say.

If he posted that the avitars are a little over the top and that he had a problem with them, or if her PMed mikey and asked if he could tone it down a little, he prolly would have gotten a less harsh reaction.

Anywho, it's all resolved now and water under the bridge, now it's all about silly posts and wasting electrons.

Well....duhh.....

If you knew me PERSONALLY....you would find that I am a fun loving family oriented 914 guy that also likes other Porsches (cept watered ones) and has a cutting sense of humor....I hate Howard Stern, so I am not of that ilk....but I like to laugh....but no one TELLS me what to do.....especially some 65 post newbie.

Ask me nice I will play nice....I took a lot of bashing with a sense of humor....I will NOT tolerate much more of it though....I recycle my avatars faster than most people change their socks.....don't like them? Turn them off.....or wait a bit and they will change....

Quite frankly there have been FAR worse posted...mine are milk toast compared to some that have graced these pages.

So who thinks Mike should have all his Avatars painted on the President of the home owners association Garage door?
Ohhh Maybe it IS Kermits house. He was just here to harrass Mike.

Think of this as a shared club garage, each with his or hers own little section. Mikes section has some questionable material hanging on the wall. Mine has had some very questionable stuff on the wall, way more questionable than the one he had posted at the time. Someone asked me to change it and I did. I dont want to cause problems for people in here no more than anyone else. I like to feel welcome here just as much as the other guy. But I do feel that it is my right to hang what I want on the walls. I take a lot of crap here like most of the long time posters do, you just roll with it. Its all in fun. Slits, Howard, MikeZ, they are all friends of mine and we actually talk like that in person to each other. We know its all in fun. Oh Aaron too, he rolls well (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif). Its all about having fun and sharing a common interest. Lets all just play nice and have some fun, isnt that what its all about? I have met so many people that are on here by going to events and chatting on here. Everyone is welcome no matter what you may think is acceptable. Now, lets all meet up this weekend and drive!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif)

QUOTE (Cloudbuster @ Feb 4 2005, 08:29 AM)
I like seeing avatars, I don't want to have to turn them off because 1 or 2 people feel the need to express themselves more, er, graphically. Avatars provide a non-verbal, (subconscious?) expression of the members that isn't present in text.

I like boobies and the female figure, clad, and otherwise. I can appreciate SpecialK's and Levi's avatars.
Usually I can ignore the avatars. But, the 'stupid avatar' in question was a moving GIF which attracts attention from miles (not Redshift) away. I'm fortunate that I can surf at work, but having a moving 'look at me!' avatar, makes 914Club-bing as little stressful.

It's a garage, but whose garage? Isn't it everybody's garage? Is ownership really determined by the total number of posts whether useful or not? There were a number of people supporting Mike's choice of avatars, but they didn't choose to decorate this garage the same way Mike does.

Yes, the situation was handled wrongly in many ways.

One response was that if Kermit had more posts, he'd KNOW what this place is like. I find that invalid. It seems the onus of responsibility rests upon the long-time, high-post members. Through countless hours of lurking and many thousands of posts, an old timer gets KNOW what will offend, or set off fellow old-timers and newbies alike. Newbies, unfamiliar with the 'family' should be handled with extra measure of grace -- or condescension, whichever suits you. An old-timer who is aware of quirks, foibles and the median level of behavior within the garage/forum, yet chooses to exceed them is tantamount to being a troll.

Ah bullshit.....the reason THIS site was founded....was to get away from censorship and to be a vendor neutral site. Pelican parts BBS was getting tight assed so we all bolted over here....rennlist had an east coast monitor that didn't appreciate ANY bashing of his bill paying list sponsors.....

So.....here we are......

NOW FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED.....DON't LIKE THE AVATARS, TURN THEM OFF.....

This is just what that maniac wants: More press. You guys are only encouraging him to be more outrageous. Keep up the good work (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

And to plug WCC yet again..

Mike will be the MC for the BBQ. All material submitted in this or the avatar post can and will be used against you at that event (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)
