That would be worth several beers for sure. Eric - suppose you are packed too tight for me to give you a pair of aluminum front calipers for rebuild at Hershey? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Just me and a 914. Then going to Michigan and getting on an aero plane thingy.

Bring them stateside and go to a usps location and grab a medium flat rate box. They'll ship for around $13.00 and be at our shop before I get there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

OK gents, we have our route for the drive. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) I'm looking quite forward to this weekend...it's been a long winter.

Attached Image

After leaving the museum, we will head directly to Hoss's Steak & Sea House for lunch. After a bit of highway driving, we shoot off onto the back roads of South Central Pennsylvania down to Route 30. Then we roll on to the Lancaster area to drive across four covered bridges. Finally, we meet the rest of 914world for dinner at Funcks Restaurant by 6PM.

According to Google maps, the drive is 109.6 miles and has a driving time of 2 hr, 43 minutes.

Notes:

1. We will do our best to stay together, but bear in mind we will be traveling through some small towns and things can happen.

2. Drive with caution - We will be in Amish Country for part of the trip. It's quite possible we may encounter a horse & buggy or two on the roads.

3. Please use the links provided below to print directions directly from Google Maps.

4. I recommend having a GPS with you. I drove the route yesterday. I used the printed directions until checkpoint #2, then switched over to GPS. (if you use GPS to get to checkpoint #2, you will miss out on the scenic, twisty back roads).

5. Only one covered bridge has any type of pull-off near it - the first one, before crossing on the right side. We will attempt to stop there for pictures. Besides that, photo opportunities may be limited to passengers while we drive this section.

6. There are three checkpoints built into the trip in case anyone gets lost. If you lose the pack, set your GPS to the next checkpoint and we will meet you there.

Checkpoint 1 - Hoss's Steak & Sea House, 9009 Bridge Rd, Hummelstown, PA
Checkpoint 2 - Franklintown Community Fire Company #65, Fire House St, Franklintown, PA.
Checkpoint 3 - Emigs 81 Diner, 7620 E. King St, Abbottstown, PA. This road goes by three different names. If your GPS doesn't find E. King St, try US 30 East or Lincoln Highway. E. King Street was the one that worked in my Tom Tom.

If we get separated after checkpoint #3, here are addresses that will get you to the covered bridges:

Bridge 1: 872 Bridge Valley Rd, West Hempfield, PA (if your GPS doesn't recognize West Hempfield, try Mt. Joy).

Bridge 2: 4193 Siegrest Rd, Mt. Joy, PA

Bridge 3: 700 S Erosman Rd, Manheim, PA

Bridge 4: 825 W Sun Hill Rd, Manheim, PA

Our final destination is Funcks Restaurant, 664 W Main St, Palmyra, PA.

We need to be back at Funcks by 6PM to have our best chance of sitting with the rest of the 914world members in town.

Man.....its been like 10+ yrs since I did a valve adjust on a /4. I actually have to read the manual and I used to be able to do it blind and drunk. I feel old.

Shifter further adjusted, one air leak fixed, heat flapper hooked up, valve covers off and awaiting adjustment (feel loose).

I think installing my rain tray may be a good idea given how previous years have been at times.

Looking forward to the drive.

Thanks to Steve & Zach for helping me work through the logistics. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I called Steve Limbert of Aircooled Racing this morning to invite him on the drive. He's tied up getting ready for Hershey. He may be able to meet us for dinner though.

Steve Limbert from Air Cooled Racing will be joining us for dinner at Funcks. I had originally invited both he and John Forbes so we could swap racing stories. But, John can't make it. Steve owns the first 914 imported in the U.S. I believe, as well as the first 914-6 GT. It should be fun.

Finally worked things out so I plan on joining everyone for dinner as well but will be coming in by myself. Booked a room at the Knight's Inn just yesterday.

I'll try to get to the restaurant about 6:00 to help hold the fort since I won't make it up in time for the drive.

When I signed up for the tour, I didn't think the wife and I could make the dinner, but now we can, so that's two more for dinner.

I am happy to see so many people coming to dinner Friday evening. Everyone is welcome. It will be a lot of fun. If you aren't going on the drive in the afternoon, you might want to try to get to the restaurant around 6 pm when we arrive back from the drive.

The restaurant says they have plenty of room for us all (I told them we would have 40 or 50 people). But, they did stress that the closer to 6 pm that we arrive, the better it is for sitting us all together. As it approaches 7 pm and on, they said it will become increasingly difficult to seat us together if we aren't already there. They have a live band at 9 pm, and apparently it gets busy leading up to that.
