Have my first 914 with a "tuna can" sump and a front oil cooler.
Is the tuna can removed, cleaned etc. same as the stock screen during an oil change? Does it use the same sealing ring, compression washer as stock? Or do I need to find proper seal? Or should I just leave it alone?

I find mixing it with a bit of Mayo and a hint of relish works for me.

I'd not eat anything made by a person who measures with a hint.

jimbo,

i have a tuna can to throw on my car (thank you paul heery (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/pray.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/pray.gif) ) and it appears it will HANG BELOW the engine bar. this scares me... my car is 3.75" to the donuts already...... so.... me thinks i need to grow some balls or raise my car to run it......

but.... the filter is eliminated i believe with the tuna can

I don't run them....

I'd rather run a deep sump- the amount of ground clearance lost is equally..

... disturbing.

FEAR the speedbumps with a tunacan. track-only application i'd wager.

Or if your 914 is in 4x4 mode (8" clearance all around). Then the only thing you have to fear is small wildlife and tree stumps.

Well, I run a can on my car. Street and Autocross. This comes up every once in awhile so I'll give my opinion again.
1st it came with the car in a box, So I put it on .... Hey looks cool NOT lower that engine bar. But it is nearly at the same location as the rear wheels so the car will lift as you go over speed bumps. ( I hate bumps) My car sits at 3 3/4 " at the lift donuts in front with 195/50-15 tires.

I got it to seal and I leave it alone. I cut thick paper gaskets like the ones you get from engine building seal kits. just drain the oil as any normal car. from the sump.

I have a oil coller also and figure dirty oil will still remain somewhere in the system anyway.

I ran one for two years on my blue car. Never had a problem. Never had a concern about hitting something unless it was high centered. Even when I slid the car over a curb it didn't touch the can. I just put on the car I just built for a friend. I think they are necessary for going fast.
