I AM!!!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif) I took the 914 out for some covert test drives last night. I finally have brakes and it's running pretty good so I put some extra license plates on and let 'er rip! I had taken it around the block before but with NO brakes. John Lush hooked me up with a set of nice tires and a rear caliper. THANKS JOHN!

I got up to about 50-60 MPH but only drove about 2 miles. I still don't have official paperwork or tags so I was cautious. This weekend I hope to take it out for a longer drive during daylight - but still totally illegal!

There are a few pressing adjustments:
1. Valves seem to be clicking - so I'll adjust those
2. Brakes are still soft so I need to bleed again
3. Carbs need dialing in. The RPM's went up to about 2500 at idle after the test run. I don't know why but it's not good! Could it be the Bosch 009 dizzy? I've heard others gripe about the 009??

Any Weber 44 IDF pros out there that could help out????

MANY THANKS TO THE 914 CLUB FOLKS FOR HELPING ME GET MY 914 ON THE ROAD!!

Cheers!

Have fun... BE CAREFUL... GET LEGAL.

How long was the car running before the revs went to 2500? Are you sure it's not just idling up when warm?

I had it running for about 10-15 minutes before the idle went up.

I've done some reading on the forums today and I am suspicious of the carbs and ignition. The Weber 44 IDF's need to be dialed in a bit more. I found a good tuning article on www.webercarburators.com. My dizzy is a 009 and a lot of folks say to use an 050. But I can't seem to find an 050. Some have said to get a Mallory unit.

Does any of this info help pinpoint the idle/RPM problem I described?

Cheers
Nate

Nate the 009 does not have the ability to get the advance that you need. BTDT
Go on the classifieds and put a WTB ad in for a 050, someone on here has one. The first thing I would do after swapping out the dizzy is reset the timing to as accutrate as possible. This will help out a lot when you go to air/mix synch the carbs.

I'll check at home tonight and see if I have a spare 050 around.

Cool! I feel your excitement......just called shop where I took mine 2 1/2 weeks ago to get tuned/meet emissions for initial registration.

Told me it wont meet Colorado Springs standards (but will meet Federal AND every other cities in my county's standards)- seems PO added a cam (?) along w/Euro pistons when he did a top end rebuild. shop told me he could get it to pass if he took it to a point where it runs like crap.....and THEN he will 're-adjust it' to run good.

Said it burns rubber and runs like a bat outta Hell (I replaced virtually every D-jet componant with NEW stuff)....should have it this weekend!!!
