This guys is flying
Very nice footwork too (hee/toe double clutch downshifts) If a 914 could only shift like that (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) Nice whine from the gearbox too http://gscdownloads.com/leh/sebring/GT3RSatSebring.wmv |

Holy crap, that's pretty damned impressive!
I like the part where he downshifts (double clutched and heel-toe) from 6th all the way to 1st. Classic. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) Later, Tom |

If you play it at half speed, it will be just like when I use to race there. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

You have to watch it 3 times to fully appreciate. Once for the track view, once for the feet, and once for the hands.

Enjoyed watching that. Look at his head bobbing around in the rear view. I would have liked to seen a PIP with tach and speedo in top right corner of this clip. Probably stringing redline downshifts. No doubt his time would have been better without the traffic and being able to take the optimal line a couple of times. This guy is one with his machine.

A technique of using your right foot to control both the throttle and brake at the same time. This allows you to match the engine rpm with the speed of the transmission input shaft as you engage the clutch durring a downshift while braking. If you do it correctly It makes braking and downshifting at the same time a smooth opperation that does not upset the car and allows you to brake hard while at the same time always being in the correct gear for whatever speed you are traveling. Technically you are using the ball of your foot on the brake pedal and your little toes on the gas pedal. It takes some practice and proper pedal height/spacing to make it work well. The pedal arrangement in a 914 makes it fairly easy. The technique is called "heel and toe" because very early cars had brakes actuated by your heel and throttle actuated by your toes. The name just stuck even though it doesn't make sense any more. A quick way to learn the technique is to set your idle so low that the engine will stall unless you keep a foot on the gas. You'll quickly learn to brake and feather the throttle at the same time to keep the engine running. You'll be heel-n-toe downshifting in no time. -Ben M. |

as for somebody say if a 914 could shift like that, i dont think the shifting had anything to do with it a 914 does not even have a throttle response good enough if the car should shift that well.
and for the nood question, double clutching is letting the clutch out during shifts when the car is in nuetral to use the engine to match gear rpms, but to do this well you need to be able to heel toe it which is using your foot to hit the brakes and gas at the same time, in a very controlled manor to bring the rpms up the the point where the gears are moving at the same speed. this has very little wear on syncros and helps prevent spins when the rear wheels suddenly try to turn at a faster or slower speed as well as slowing the car with the brakes |

I feather the throttle all the time.. and heel and toe durring downshifts..
Its common practice for me now.. Im starting to practice left foot breaking (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) Now, Double clutching is just doing two clutch actions, one to disengage the gear, and one to engage it... Am I correct or... I never got the double clutch one.... (tried doing two actions once really fast, just felt slow.. and my left leg hurt from moving so fast... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) ) |

you dont need to totally disengage the clutch, just enough to get the gear to slacken up to go in to nuetral, then once the gear speeds are the same the second slack allows the gear to engage, done right you can stop the car from spinning, save wear on the tranny and is faster track times |
