So technically a full rebuild Today yes....BITD No,, top end time,, and while youre there..rod bearings.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) ,the job is so much bigger than just doing guides ,one of those "while you are in there " jobs which IMO is critical with a 911 motor and that can't be ignored. Strange that ran one rod bearing ? the 3.2 is regarded as being strong in that area , old news but just asking ,cheers. |

3.2’s have undersized rod bolts. If you use stock rods, you always upgrade the bolts to ARP.
We rarely do just a top end. We can’t “warranty” the rebuild without splitting the case. Who knows what else is wrong. Intermediate shaft bearing, main bearings, issues with the fuel pump, etc. Every time we open one up, there’s always something that makes us say that we are glad we split the case. It’s not cheap but it’s really expensive to have to go back in and do it twice. |

I will simply put an option out there.
If it’s not an amazing amount of smoke, driving it and enjoying it may be worth it. |

I will simply put an option out there. If it’s not an amazing amount of smoke, driving it and enjoying it may be worth it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I get the "It's burning too much oil" all the time on normal appliance cars. Rebuilding the engine is NEVER a cost-effective way to go. Simple math shows an engine burning a quart over 500 miles equals 200 qts of oil over 100K. Cheap oil is $5 per qt. So, $1000 or $4k+ And, most of the time, the 200K POS will NOT be with the owner for another 100K... I say, "Burn the oil and save up money for another C.A.R . unit." I did my last "stock only" build about 10 years ago... Now, weak rod bolts/bad shit inside the case would worry me MORE than oil consumption. Seeing these old threads with new comments is good for education (especially mine!). Mepstein's thoughts alone have been illuminating! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) |

I certainly understand the need for the engine to be suitable for resale , thanks for the info I had no idea of this issue ,cheers. |
