I'll add a quick thought here, as it's 2AM and I can't sleep:

I'm creating an Excel spreadsheet of the maintenance history for my recent rustbucket purchase. This is a car that will need some serious work, but as you go through a thick stack of receipts, you see all the work that was done and all the care taken of the car. This is a $1400 base model project that I'm going to spend some time on and turn it into a cute orange go-devil; nothing fancy but still a remnant of an analog era. It seems a real shame that folks will take cars that are probably more complete than mind, sell off a few good bits, then chuck the rest.
