So there was a recent thread where there was serious 'take the rocker covers off and check your longs' finger wagging going on.... so I did...
Background: I got the car 8/2012, from Cali, a Palm Springs car its whole life. The car had/has very little rust, and is very original. I'm fairly certain that the covers have never been off in the life of the car.... this is what I found: Drivers Side: This is the road tar and sand and whatever was caked in there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) Passenger Side: So the rivet holes on the passenger side sill are rusty, and I'll clean those up and primer/paint. Overall the longs look great, and I'm happy to see them so clean and rust free. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

Those look good.
I did the same last year...like going to a doctor's appointment that you have been putting off for a while. Ten pounds of sand, dirt a crap came out. POR'd the valance insides and resprayed the valances on the outside with 3M undercoating and then a top coat of clear lacquer. replaced the screws underneath with S/S metric cap screws instead of the cheese heads. I just re-riveted the top in place since the sheet metal is thin there. They are easy to drill out. |
