So there was a recent thread where there was serious 'take the rocker covers off and check your longs' finger wagging going on.... so I did...
Background: I got the car 8/2012, from Cali, a Palm Springs car its whole life. The car had/has very little rust, and is very original. I'm fairly certain that the covers have never been off in the life of the car.... this is what I found: Drivers Side: This is the road tar and sand and whatever was caked in there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) Passenger Side: So the rivet holes on the passenger side sill are rusty, and I'll clean those up and primer/paint. Overall the longs look great, and I'm happy to see them so clean and rust free. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

Man, that dirt was all layered in like sediment. I wonder if you could do some soil analysis and carbon dating and map out where all the car has been?

I wonder if you could do some soil analysis and carbon dating and map out where all the car has been? yea no kidding, that brick of sediment looked like Grand Canyon layering... Biggest disappointment with the car is the lack of ownership history, and any of the original maintenance documentation. I'll be at the Cincinnati VW/Porsche show in two weeks, who else is coming? |
