Ha ha ha, no. No, no no, no politics. That, religion and titties (the adult trifecta) are the reason we have the Sandbox, and thank goodness for that.

And now sports too.

If the sandbox is the "adult playground" then sports do not really belong there either. Forum Mods need to create an Off Topic "all ages" forum area...

Believe this thread has headed off topic.
Maybe we need a forum for OT threads that have gone OT (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
and
I nominate Veeky for thread admin.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hide.gif)

Soccer is also the biggest sport in the world, sorry that rugby is not.:

FYI - worldwide the Rugby World Cup is #3, FIFA world Cup (Football/Soccer) #2, & Olympics #1 by both attendance & viewership.

BTW - I played American Football & Soccer, as well as Rugby, & am a big Trojans & Steelers fan - but I just pass over the OT baseball, basketball, hockey & other OT sports posts - without jumping in requesting them to be bumped to the Sandbox.

But then this is about what is OT & not & getting better guidance for all members on what can be in the Garage &/or other posts.

So should it be an OT or SOT post in the Garage - or moved to O&H when I post info about upcoming SoCal PCA Concours events - which are really Porsche-only car shows, where I'd love to get more 914 presence?
(& our PCA actually like 914 now, some love them & many had them)

In reality there is a bunch of OT & SOT & WOT in the Garage .... what re the guidelines or rules officially for that & what gets bumped?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

5100 characters +/- to make what point? That soccer gets favorable treament and rugby doesn't?

If I've missed the point, maybe it's because it's hidden in a tangle of snakes worthy of Indiana Jones.

And yet Marc you took the time to quote the entire OP & do a word count!? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Yeah - you & others missed the point due to my example - even when I added others. Sorry for the "tangle of snakes," so here you go in 32 words:

It's about changing the rules for better guidance to members on what is OT & allowed where, or else follow the current rules & allow them so long as tagged as OT.

Simple enough for you & others who still seem stuck on Rugby?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

QUOTE(rhodyguy @ Nov 5 2015, 06:13 AM) *

The war chant the all blacks use prior to the game would have me heading for an exit if I were on the opposing team.

I played against a half Maori Rugby Club team touring over here in the late 70's, & when they did the Hakka (Maori war chant) one of our guys did just that .... turned & ran off the pitch (field)! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

However, it left us with just one sub back in the days when you could only have 2 subs for injury only & had to play the full 80 minutes! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

BTW - for those who don't know, all of the Polyneasians do a similar war chant, & when they open their eyes way wide & stick their tongue waaaay out KISS style (where they got the tongue thing BTW) - they're not being cute,

.... but rather, they're saying they're going to kill you & EAT you alive! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif) .... apparently literally in the old days! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

AFAIK none of that Kiwi Rugby touring side (team) drove 914s, but the 2 Maori guys who bunked at my place LOVED it when they drove it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

QUOTE(Racer Chris @ Nov 3 2015, 06:01 AM) *

I think for an ot topic to remain in the Garage it should at least be automotive in nature.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) But with this caveat. I would like to keep the OT's re: the health or passing of any of our members in the Garage. JMHO

Progress!! So there have been several useful comments in here...

Automotive is okay - does it just need NPC if not about Porsches to stay or an OT?
... in the past many NPC tagged posts on VWs, BMWs, etc. have been bumped from the Garage, so what's the rule/protocol?

Mrs. K stays - so I guess Rob's faux posts should too??

Notices about health & passing of members stay. What about the appeals for help when some members are in a financial or other bind?? (I say also stay)

Any others &/or ones I've missed from the comments here so far? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

What about Happy 4th of July & other Holiday greetings or remembrances posts?
... OT or move??

What about the "I'm having a BBQ" or other non-auto type announcements posts?
... OT or move??

IMHO, I say the Garage is the place where everyone looks, & therefore the best place to get the most coverage for everyone & anyone to see a post/topic & chose to look or pass it over.

So my position would be counter to the above, & say just leave it open & tagging them OT & not move OTs .... but that's my position, & that of a few others' so far.

I still think that polling the wider membership is ultimately the best way to gauge the sentiment of all members, without subjecting themselves to some of the BS I'm getting on here with "shoot the messenger" hooey.

QUOTE(andrewb @ Nov 5 2015, 09:17 AM) *

And I started the thread that I now learn got moved and so spawned this thread !

Seriously guys - is it such a big deal ?

I titled my thread OT not because I read the rules but because that was what I saw others had done - on auto and non auto topics so it does seem that the rules don't match reality.

I was surprised when someone posted that it should be in the sandbox - a good chunk of The Garage should be in that case.

What I like about The Garage is the range of topics and the convenience of being able to dip in and out without logging in.

And I thought that those with open minds might be interested in something outside their normal range of experience which made an interesting contrast with the American equivalent.

But if rules is rules - fair enough. Just apply them.

(Tom - you trouble maker you !!)

So just to reiterate the above quote for the Rugby/Tom-bashing crew on here, the above is from the UK member OP of the older Rugby & RWC topic which got bumped (DBcooper has already noted that he was the other topic poster - again they were not me, but I posted the Rugby frustration quotes in their threads as quoted in my OP here, granted out of my personal irritation after a similar treatment of mine in the 2011 RWC season).

I separated out his key points into single lines for the reading challenges on here.

Yes Andrew, I guess I am a trouble maker for daring to point out that we need to follow rules fairly & reasonably, & to change them if necessary or desired to give better guidance to the membership.

Enjoy your warm beer mate! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Just to look at the entirety of the rules, since many have probably never seen them, here they is as they stand in italics below, as quoted from SirAndy's post topic Rules in the FAQs:

"We don't like rules, but hey, you gotta have a few and we want 914World to be a friendly place where people come to chat about cars and life, so here they are.

* Racism doesn't have a place at 914World.

* Don't call anyone names. Treat other members like your mother taught you - If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

* We like everyone to be able to have their voice, so we won't edit, delete or lock a thread or post unless it's just gotta be done. Keep yer dirty pictures in the Sandbox, too. We'll do our best to send you a PM before we clean up yer messes.

* We hope you use our classifieds, but the 914World team can't be responsible for the actions of buyers and sellers. Remember the latin "Caveat Emptor"... (translation: let the buyer beware.)

* Please, let's not talk about Politics & Religion. Wars have been fought for years and years because of Politics and Religion, so let's keep 'em out of 914World.

* Remember keep yer dirty pictures in the Sandbox. Yes, this includes avatars and pictures in signatures.

* We welcome your off topic posts, but please label your post so it's obvious (begin your topic with "OT:").

The 914World Admin team.

"

A few of you have illustrated a flagrant disregard in this thread (& in others) for the second rule (bold & italic added for emphasis):

"* Don't call anyone names. Treat other members like your mother taught you - If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

It's actually a pretty good rule for life as well & worth following whether in person, on the phone or when hiding behind a computer or smartphone/pad screen! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Unfortunately it's the least enforced by the Admins on here, whereas all of the other 914, RennList, PCA, BimmerForums, BMW-CCA, PCA, VW, AirForums (Airstreams/Vintage Kin) & other online forums in which I participate do in fact enforce it, so there is a lot less member bashing on them, than seen in just this one thread here!

Of course I'm somewhat guilty too, since I did use "wankers" in my copied from the Rubgy post quote - although I meant it in a generic rather than literal sense, just as we (ex-)Pittsburghers use "Jaggoff" for a slacker!

Again ... just sayin'! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)
