There's a Windows setting to ask your permission before downloading any updates, pretty simple. I'm no Microsoft fan, for the last twenty years I've gone out of my way to avoid Microsoft products whenever possible, but W-10 seems fine. I don't use it much, only on the desktop/server. It initially couldn't find my older Netgear NAS but that was fixed with the first update and no issues since. For good order's sake I should say that I'm so boring that no one spies on me, or if they do my data goes straight into the "other" folder.

I'm OK using 10, but I can't get my PC Games on Disc's to load and Run on 10. They ran fine on Windows 7 & 8?

r3dplanet says in the Sandbox that Win 10 steals your data... if this is true, someone speak up! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
And I'm sitting at my desk looking across the valley at the NSA building talking about stealing data... Ooh boy, I'm in for it now... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif)

There are a few articles on this, but you can go into the settings and shut all the tracking off. Its not stealing data, but it does look. Then again, so does every antivirus software, etc.

If you're like most people you're probably giving more data away by using apps on your smartphone than you'd ever come close to by using W10.

OK, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) so is this a good thing or a bad thing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

In your situation, it may be a good thing if your machine can handle it.
How old is your machine?

Overall, it's simple, smooth and will eliminate all the crap that was not working.
If you saw my rant, it's not a super smooth upgrade, you may honestly just want to buy a new machine with it already installed....

Overall, a decent operating system.
The start menu is back, thank god.
Finding everything is a bit different, but not so bad that you won't be able to deal with it.

I use it for surfing and word document editing...it's fine.

Entperprise clients will stick with windows 7 for at least another three years, so my work laptop reflects that reality.

For home use, basic stuff, you may find it easier to use.

Or, you can manually remove the Win 10 updater and never be bothered again.

If you do a Google search, there are several good tutorials on how to do that.

Got tired of the notifications so just updated to 10.

But before I did I installed Classic Shell which essentially emulates the Windows 8 interface without all the touch screen software that was constantly taking me somewhere else other than where I wanted to go. With the new software (Windows 10 and Classic Shell) my system is working much better than before I upgraded.

There are still a couple of windows you have to get used to, but nothing difficult.
