My /6 is a 1970 and when I bought it the roof did not have a carpet. I thought it has been removed in the past. I have checked the parts manual and got the impression that there should be a roof carpet for a /6 and also got this info from another /6 owner. So am I wrong in this point? My /6 did not have roof carpet when I bought it in 1977. It also had a slightly different style rubber strip for the top of the windows that did not seal as well. I picked up a newer roof many years ago with carpet. |

Early 6's did not have headliner in the roof, as far as I know.
My car didn't when I bought it from the dealer in 73 and the PO didn't know which end of a screw driver to hold so I doubt he removed it. |

It's part of the fun tracking some of these parts down. I have found six parts in Germany at Porsche; swap meets can be a source. The old Ventura, CA Porsche meet used to be an unbelievable place to find NOS six parts, but it no longer exists.
The NLA/NOS parts bin for 914-6s is pretty much dried up, but a lot of the old timers (me included) have been sitting on our stashes for years. I started stock piling NOS six parts starting 25 years ago and still have them for the day I repaint my car and install them. When I finally get to it, I'll sell all my existing stock of new & used parts. At least I think I will. Searching is half the fun. |

Up to about 2000 there was quite a stock pile of -6 parts at Porsche in Germany, then the parts started flying of the shelf when lots of conversions started.

Wow....love seeing all these NOS parts.
I know it's a disease no doubt about it. But what a great disease to have....if you must have one. I know how tough some of these parts are to locate. Just makes it that more important to try and restore as many of the parts on your car as possible. Still nothing like seeing an NOS part come out of it's original wrapping. A thing of beauty! Hunting and collecting these old NOS parts is great thing ... and if they come in original packing it's even better. It's part of a long restoration process and it shortens the time in a very good way.
I have started NOS hunting with the purchase of my /6 more than 3 years ago. I am searching wordwide, but non of the parts I bought directly out of a Porsche dealer shop. A lot of parts are leftovers from guys who had these cars years ago and they bought it as spares. But also private collectors, ebay, restoration shops etc. are good sources. BTW - I am trying to find a NOS targa roof seal - the early version for sure (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Maybe someone can help here? BTW ... I have also some old rubber stuff like this ... |

Really nice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)
At the end it would be great to hear how much you invested over all! Most of NOS-parts are pricey and you pay a lot more for the "original" old package. However, keep on collecting. |

Early 6's did not have headliner in the roof, as far as I know. My car didn't when I bought it from the dealer in 73 and the PO didn't know which end of a screw driver to hold so I doubt he removed it. Headliner, are you sure the top was not replaced by someone else? Especially if the owner didn't know how to use a screw driver. I've seen a 71 - 6 with a headliner and I doubt the Dr that owned it had the time and knowledge to change it out. As for the original poster, good luck and I would hate to see the amount you've invested. ...but then, no one ever mentioned that it would be inexpensive while we are having fun. |

While it is possible the roof had been changed out very early in it's life, I bought the car from the dealership that sold it new and took it back in trade when the warranty was about to expire. So the roof would have to have been replaced in less than 24,000 miles or 2 years. Anything is possible though |

Not looking to hijack this thread... The NOS parts
are awesome to see.. There is a thread in the Originality Forum discussing the differences between 4's and 6's and they do mention headliners on roofs, or the lack of on early cars. |
