This is very sad news.

After the 2009 WCR I made it from the Streets of Willow Springs to just east of Barstow before I heard a bad squeak that turned out to be a wheel bearing that had gone out. After a tow back to Barstow, I started calling folks on the emergency contact list. Ron was the only one who called back. We arranged for me to rent a car and come down to Riverside to meet him the next morning. He had a complete suspension unit for me and refused to take a dime for it. I was back on the road home the next morning.

I'm still running with that unit in my car and I think of him every time I drive it. It's terrible to know that now I'll have to think of him in past-tense instead of looking forward to seeing him again at the next Red Rocks Classic.

I'm stunned, very sorry to hear of this. Ron will be fondly remembered by all.

At the Route 66 awards banquet in Prescott this past May, for no reason at all, Ron suddenly peeled off his shirt and did a little jig in front of everyone. Funny stuff!
