personal opinion...
nothing sounds as nice as a short stroke -6 motor on song... neither are going to be as fast as what is out there, what is possible |

Running a 2.2 and disagree about the torque. 2.0Ts make really nice torque, as do 2.2 and, especially, 2.4Ts. Of course a 3.0 or 3.2 makes more torque, but those can be built into horsepower-oriented engines, too.
My 2.2 has a E pistons with a little compression, a bit of head work, and Solex cams. It really sings through the rev range on the way up to 7200 rpm, but it makes more midrange torque than I expected. A lot more. Very tractable, but does lose steam up top—so it isn't as thrilling at the top as an S. We lost 20 hp with the factory airbox back on (dropping from 169 rwhp to 149), but gained 12 back when we pulled the snorkel and air cleaner off—so need to figure that out as I'd like to avoid rain hats. |

That's a great combination and very similar to the 2.3 that I am building. I like your horsepower numbers.
Our 73 911 with the 2.4E spec motor pulls hard to 6600 rpm with the single pipe muffler and the stock aircleaner with the warmup bullshit removed. I ran it this way at Lime Rock because of noise restrictions. I changed to the Alan Johnson twin pipe sport muffler for the Glen and it would pull hard to 7300 rpm like an S. So much for the old wives tale that MFI likes back pressure! Charlie |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) that's why Porsche did the T motor,a touring drivers car, short stroke motors seems to be popular builds these days,Henry @ Supertechs been doing a few. From a conversion point of view I would suggest the Op goes for the 2.4 easy fit to the 914 g/box and no cooler install. Op has gone into hiding ? hopefully is reading up and makes a wise call (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) |

Thanks for all the input. I decided not to buy the 2.2 or the 2.4 there was something about the seller that didn't quite ring true, the motors were not in Sweden and it was a case of buying without seeing. I feared that both motors require a rebuilt and that could have been potentially too much for my pocket.
However I got hold of a 2.2T motor which is in good shape and its local so I got to see it before commuting myself. It wasn't cheap but it seems like the price of these motors just keeps rising so I figured that if I didn't invest now I would never be able to afford it. I will post some pictures soon I do not have any idea what is required to mate the motor to the 914 g/box, install it in the car or how to set up the oil system All guidance & advice appreciated |

You need a 914-6 flywheel, AKA a 1969 911T flywheel. I do not think the 2.2 flywheel is the same, but I could be wrong.
Here is one set of documents about the 914-6 conversion. Note that these were written quite a while ago, and some of the information is outdated, mostly when it talks about sources for parts and things that are NLA. But much of it is still true: http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/914-6_cons...ruction_kit.htm --DD |

There are hundreds of threads and days of material. A lot of it will duplicate but you will build your knowledge base and start to be able to make decisions about what direction you want to go. Some education now will same you time and money later. |

I picked up the motor for my 6 conversion . Its a 2.2T motor # 6110444.
It seems to weigh a lot, stupid question but i have to ask it, will I need to upgrade the springs?
