Can a 914 tow another 914 with this hitch? Anyone's estimate of how much weight a 914 can tow?

@914werke

A 914 may be able to tow another 914, but you probably shouldn't.

An example of how this could go very wrong is when I used my 50 hp (on a good day) 81 Rabbit diesel 5-speed pickup to flat tow a VW Super Beetle while hauling 2 dune buggy bodies along with various other VW parts in the truck bed. (I REALLY wished I had a photo of this!).

It was slow going but was able to get to the speed limit of 35 mph on a side road. The light changed as I approached the intersection and had to do a mild panic stop. The problem was, the momentum of the Super Beetle lifted the back end of the little pickup slightly and pushed me right through the intersection with only my overwhelmed front brakes to (eventually) stop me. Luckily nobody else was in the intersection!

I eventually made it home but approached all the other intersections with a LOT more caution.

Can you suggest a source for the LE spoiler like pictured? I'm interested in installing your hitch on my 75 1.8 car but don't want to remove the valence or spoiler every time I want to use it.

Thanks!
What I should have asked is: Will ANY spoiler work with your tow bar attached or is it a good idea to remove ALL of them while towing? I currently have an OE steel front valance on my car now. The tow vehicle will be a 2011 Lincoln Navigator with a fairly tall hitch height. I'd likely put a 6" or more drop hitch on it while towing a 914.

I would say no, "ANY" would probably not work well.
The bracket was an update or revision from previous units to amongst other enhancements lower the PU points & allow its use while retaining the LE style spoiler & its unique center aperture.

Thanks!

To your knowledge, has anybody modified a stock steel valence to allow it to stay on the car while using it? If so, any pics of it? I was thinking of doing that to a lesser quality valence.
