Can someone take a look at my door mechanism and tell me if it is missing a spring or something? The latch portion on the back is loose and I think it is supposed to be more firm. I apologize for the greasy photo. The door doesn't close correctly.

Yup: the spring is missing. And it different than regular springs. The ends are flat. Put an add in the classified; someone will have one.

I cleaned my mechanism w in the brake-cleanet solvent and a small acid brush. After it's super clean lube with PB Dry Teflon spray ( sold at Home Depot next to the PB Blaster)

Sticky mechanism will lead to broken door handles. Definitely clean and lube that.

Your old spring may be in the bottom of the door
