how many people have seen a volcano that has exploded other than on tv? carson hot springs, bonneville hotsprings and resort, hwy 1 up the coast, skiing on mt hood in july, camp914, a kegger at jim's (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) , crater lake (worth the side trip on the jaunt up). perhaps a Pacific Notrthwest Festival of Momentum? jp refered to a new track south of the pland area last year. did i mention it probably won't be 105* in the shade? i put in a plug for portland because i have family there and it would be a LOT easier to convince the wife to go if we could drag the whole family along and make a visit to the relatives at the same time as i do my porsche thing....

I vote for portland because it's only a couple hrs away from me, and I know I could go this way. Vegas would be impossiable just like the last two years of WCC. We've had the WCC in southern part of the country for the last couple years and it's time for a change (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif). Plus portland is a beautiful part of the country and a very different climate than nevada and california. There is a lot of support up here from the 914 community and I think we deserve a chance to show are stuff. Just my opinion.

05 was a social success because it was held in locations without a lot of distractions, so the group stayed together and partied.
IMHO any big city ain't the place. Everyone will head in their own direction and miss the point. Let's just hold it in Joe's RV (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) Kevin and Heidi are right. Scenery beats glitz. |

I voted Portland because I would love to spend more time in the PNW. I think it is one of the more beautiful parts of the country (when it is dry).

we wouldn't have to stay in portland itself. it could be regarded as a general area. as howie stated, trapping the group forces that personal contact. "it's a good thing"-m. stewart.

Maybe there could even be a large gathering at CAMP914? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)

I guess it will be The Pacific Northwest Classic 2006. See ya. http://www.portlandhistorics.com/ This is an event that we can piggyback on and we can all get in. It has something for everyone. Mom, dad, kids and 914ers. Plus the hotels are across the freeway, and the weather is great in July.

Howard makes a good point about the glitz. If it were in Vegas everyone would be running away from eachother and doing all kinds of stuff. If it were up to me, I would propose that we START in portland and then use the surrounding area to for the event. The general portland area would give a totally new and different feel to the WCC. The pacific northwest is a very different area with very different scenery than both california and nevad and I think if given the chance it would be a great event. Another important part of Portland is the large amount of support in Portland. We have a lot of people up here who would be able to make this event a reality. I know I can't speak for everyone, but I know I would be more than happy to do whatever I can to get the thing going in Portland. I don't know if this holds true in vegas, but it could be a deciding factor. If there is no one to take the reins in vegas it would create a big problem.

Let's not forget the most important question. Who is going to do Bowlsby (04) and Howard's job in 06? That determines where or if it will be held. A major undertaking, and I haven't yet heard of a volunteer in either Vegas or Portland.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) James knows several local 914 people that have nothing to do with the internet, that would probably come if it were in Portland. There is also a State park that is about 45min from portland (Champoeg). For those on a budget you can camp in a cabin or yurt for like $30 a night. You can even make reservations. http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_113.php |

Just my $00.02 worth. We love Vegas! Too distracting for this kind of thing though. Also too spread out, and way too f***ing hot. The PNW is great, especially July, August, September, October. PIR is a cool track.
Craig's idea of piggy backing onto the vintage race is a good one. We are also hosting the Porsche Parade next year, maybe dovetail with that? Portland is compact, easy to get to, great roads to drive on: either to the beach or to Mt. Hood. There are enough of us here to organize things up. Pamela and I would even consider an evening BBQ at our place (we have a house designed for partying on the river). Plenty of good hotels/motels....Double Tree dominates and is closest to the track. PDX gets my vote |

I vote Portland. One because it is closer and I might be able to drive a 914 there, and two, If my job interfears again, I could still make it to some of the fun!!
My wife would also come along... To you guys in Cali, dont under estimate the Northwest... |

I thought you guys choose SoCal for 05, cause you were going to do Portland in 06 because the Porsche Parade was going to be up in the Portland area in 2006?

I think the SoCal contingent should look closely at thier maps. There are too many fun ways to get to Ptown. The 395 to Reno then 80 to 89 to the 5 is just one of many scenic and twisty semi direct routes! I just get acny thinking of taking the inland roads North. BINGO !!! the reality is that you need to get someone to sign up for organising and promoting the event FIRST. John Larson (Cap'n Crusty) did the first event like this in 2000, and i did the event in Reno in 2002. believe me when i tell you it is NOT an easy job, and it CANNOT be done by remote control. you need LOCAL INVOLVEMENT. (and if you don't want to believe me, ask Jeff, or Howard...) one of the downsides with Parade is that it will suck up all the available resources and venues. and i promise you, a year is NOT TOO MUCH TIME to plan; it is barely enough. when you get more than one person willing to sign up to chair the event, THEN you can start to debate which has the better shot at developing a successful event. sooner or later it NEEDS to be in the PNW, and yeah, some guys from the southwest won't make it. there are ALWAYS decisions and tradeoffs to be made... |
