Only problem with Portland, is weather. It is not conducive to long term planning. Granted, Portland is not Seattle, but I've passed on several race weekend's over the years (driving from SoCal) due only to the uncertainty of the weather. I love PIR; it's a fantastic track. One of my all time favorites! I recall a race weekend back around '83, when I arrived at the track after a 1000 mile trip. A steady rain....I remember sitting in my van starring at the pit area with all the puddles waiting for it to clear....never did, so I took a scenic drive up the gorge, had a relaxing dinner. Both SoCal and Vegas don't usually suffer from the weather disrupting a long term plan; BTDT.

well said (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)

there are lots of wonderful roads through the alps (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif)

it would be just 15 minutes from my place (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

unfortunately there's no track within the next 2 hours (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)

Whatever location is picked, strongly suggest you don't try to piggyback on to another event. That's the mess we had in 04 with the PCA AX, and would have had here with POC (who had rented Willow for that weekend).

You just can't bring 100 of your closest friends to someone else's party.

The liklihood of getting PIR for our event is slim. Cost is 2 to 3 times what Streets of Willow cost. Booking it is difficult as it is a city owned facility and heavily used in the dry months. Maybe an autocross on a weekday could be arranged but probably not the track.

Parade.

I personally feel that we owe it to the PacWest guy's to hold an event up there. They have now traveled twice to the southern events. We can drive north.

Again.. the whole idea was to piggie back on the Parade weekend. It will ease *some* of the organizers headache.

Portland.

If I go west this year for an event.. it will be for the MUSR/MWC/ or Fall Foliage

I'm guessing we have 4-5 members in the Vegas area ??

Dont forget.. it helps out A LOT if you have a person from that area setup the event... and help from that area.. to setup the event.. PacWest has all the people they need.

You can if you let them know you are coming. PCA is dying to have "our" group show up to their events. Every single Zone event I attend the PCA zone president ask's me how to get "our" people to their events.

I know what kind of pain in the ass POC can be.. we have ran combined weekends with them at Laguna Seca..

I'm meeting again today at 2pm with a group that can help us organize events around the world (if need be) they currently organize Formula1 weekends/Indy car weekends/Nascar weekends. We cant continue to rely on "volunteer" club members to organize these events. I'm 100% sure that it can be VERY overwhelming at times. This group has been organizing small/med/large automotive events since 1986. Many of you have attended their events and didnt even know it (myself included). Many of you attended one of their events this past weekend (VARA race at Willow Springs) They are not VARA.. they just help with sponsors/advertising/organizing/hotels/food..blah blah.. same stuff Howard and Jeff pulled off.

We will see.

I will go to either location. The Vegas site has it's benefits as it offers alot of things for those in the family who are not so 914 oriented (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) . But, I can also see where the glitz and glamour could detract from the real focal point. The Portland area is also good and I have alot of family there so logistics would be easier.

Well, the New Mexico contingent is in quite a conundrum... (well, we'll go wherever it is, to be honest!)

I voted for Vegas because it's easier to get my husband to go, but I love Portland area, too! There are some really beautiful drives around Mt Hood (Full Sail Brewery) and then there are some nice roads around Edgefield (McMenamins compound) as well as NewPort (Rogue Brewing) and don't forget Portland itself! (Too many breweries to individually mention!)

Oh, yeah... Howard knows that I'll bring beer wherever it is, but as he said... variety is the spice of life!!!

The beer wench. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving-girl.gif)

The Portland area is a couple of hours from me. I don't think I would make the best person to orginize an event of this magnitude, but would be more than happy to lend what services I could to the cause.

My parents live in Vegas, my sisters in Seattle so my vote is San Jose. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) Just tell me where to sign and I'm there. Hope my car(s) are ready...

Seriously, Portland will be difficult to keep a large group of cars together. I always get lost driving there. Vegas has more "room" for groups. To be fair I would include both cities in the next few WCC'S. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/clap.gif)

it was sunny and 70* with no wind when i left my house on wednesday. remember what the forecast was for the past weekend in camarillo? if a person has never spent alot of time in the pacnw, here's a tip. statisticly, after the 4 of july is great weather. pland is futher inland than seattle and warmer. you can go from a temporate rainforrest to a high desert/prarrie in about and hour and 1/2, about the same time it took us to get to lancaster. craig or jim, what's the name of the ski area down by pendelton?

Just wanted to talk about traffic in the Vegas area. I went in December for my Mother in-laws 60th. I have been visiting for 25 yrs due to family living there. The traffic is soooo lame due to tourists in rental cars (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ar15.gif) It would be very hard on all cars and mental states of most. You can usually walk faster around town than driving or cabbing.
If its gambling and the likes, you should think of Reno and the new 2.4 mile road course in Fernley (see previous thread of Reno Fernley raceway).
I really hate Vegas due to the family thing (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/flipa.gif)

Portland for me. While it's a lot further for me, it's more likely I'd make the drive there, than to Vegas just to spend more time in the desert. I get enough of that as it is. Plus, I'd plan to take a couple of weeks so I could enjoy the drive (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif) and see some of the sights while in the area. Love that part of the country and it's been a long time since I was up there. And then there's the (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer3.gif)

there are some great resort hotels OFF the strip in Vegas, that are not distracting (summerlin area). and there are also some nice mountain roads there as well. but don't schedule anything past mid April, because that's when the weather warms up.

I'll step up and throw in my hat to help organize a Portland event.

Who said that? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/bs.gif)

We have a great bunch of guys up here I can cajole into helping. I've done some similar things in the past and can apply lessons learned. I can see Jim ducking already......We are organizing the a/x portion of Parade, contacts are being made and will prove helpfull with WCC06 in PDX.

I think the main challenge will be organizing PIR. We will need to book it soon. Best time is after July 4th, no more rain, until October.

off hand i count a minimum of 20 cars that could attend from the puget sound area. not to include eastern wa or canada.

Yep, if held in Portland I'm sure that both of the 914 drivers in Eastern Washington would come. (Right Matt?) We could even caravan. Can you call two cars a caravan? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

Well, Portland just jumped into the lead in votes, funny thing is, most of the votes from last year probably didnt even come to it. Either way, I am in, if it goes up to Portland, I might even get my so called wife to go with me up there. She likes it all pretty and peaceful. Which is how I see Portland. Calm and laid back. Vegas is more party till you puke and yes, it does get very hot there in the summer. I think it should also be held after school gets out so families can bring thier kids and some of the members here are teachers as well. June in vegas is not very pleasant unless you hang in a casino. Reno would be nice too. Kind of the best of both worlds. I think it is something to consider. Do we have anyone up in Reno?
