organising the group buy is easy.

getting a better delivered price than the established distributor that does this for a living every day - that's hard. these are people who already have their contracts with the shippers, know how to handle the customs brokers, and buy in large quantities that net them even better price points.

i have to give you full marks for effort - an international deal right out of the blocks was something that most of us (well, for sure i) would not even have attempted.

it's VERY hard to pull off a group buy without SOMEONE getting really pissed off, or losing a bunch of money - or both.

there was one famous group-buy attempt here in recent history that ended fairly badly, so you're well ahead of the game to have avoided that.

I wanted to tell you a while back that it might be wise to stick with the U.S. vendor. But I didn't want to curb your enthusiasm or otherwise step on your toes.

If it's not going to be any great savings call it a day. With all the money and time your putting into phone calls and emails...let those who want the jacket get it on their own. Save yourself the head ache (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif)

Did anybody see the guy in Road&Track wearing one of these? He was standing between his Dino and 911.
I hate that guy!

Thanks for trying on the jackets...

I'm re-pinning it at least until we hear what Brice has up his sleeve. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) I'll manage it and un pin it again afterwards.

Will know more tomorrow when I'm off till 18:00. Will report sleeve length then. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

You did a great job (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) , just way too much $$ for the average guy....now if we all owned real Porsches the $$ wouldn't matter.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

I'm going to see what options we have from this end and as soon as I see all the people involved I will report back.

Don't look at it that way. This was one of the toughest group buys to pull off that I've ever seen.

And I've been PISSED OFF over a group buy once or twice.

You did great, don't knock your effort. Thanks for stirring up interest. Sounds like we may get something done.

here's what makes a great group buy: "one size; one color; one price - take it or leave it."

even *that* is going to require that you collect all the money up front (or be willing to finance the deal out of your pocket), try to collect from the people who said they wanted in but didn't pay, deal with people who *do* want in but it's too late, deal with the supplier, pack up everything and get it all shipped to the right people. daunting task.

add in the issues with international currency exchange rates fluctuating hourly, and one of the thorniest customs issues there is right now (clothing) and you had a very tough nut to crcack.

it takes a VERY brave and secure person to admit that the deal is not happening and call it off; lots of people would stick to it through the (typically unpleasant) end.

ya did good.

it sounds like the "new" deal may actually be to locally manufacture a series of clone knock-offs -- and get out of the business before the official licensees get wind of the deal!

I'm new here and saw the thread. When I want something for a good price, I just become a dealer or find the largest distributor. All you need is a business name and resale liscense, which is free, buy your stuff at discount and pay your sales tax at the year end. Charge your friends a couple % profit to cover your paperwork and everyones happy. By the sound of it you'll meet the minimum.

Here's the reply I got this morning from them.

Thanks a lot for your dealer request ,the terms are very simple ,we need a first order of 2000 USD to get you started ,
The wholesellprices are 50 % off the retailprices witch you find on our website .
I just need to know if you have a store and what other brands you sell .
If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me .

Thnaks again
