so this is the second time I have ordered a key blank for my car.
take a close look, I don't think it will work.
the last one was the same, different company.
or am I missing something? do I have to order by year?

Looks like it should work to me.
What looks wrong to you?

I seem to remember the red keys were longer and would not open the trunks.

I had this issue when I ordered genuine blank for my ignition, the grooves in the blank meant it only fitted the doors and trunks.
I have no idea what the PO has done with the locks however.

Whether the key fits or not has nothing to do with the grooves.
Also, there is no difference in length between master and valet keys.

hard to tell with that picture, but it looks like you are missing a lengthwise groove on the bottom (in that picture) of the key blank.

Valet key has extra groove, pin doesn't hit the key, prevents lock from turning.

cool, always wondered about that.
I rekeyed everything to one key...cause all the locks came from "I can't remember which parts car"
