I was driving from Atlanta to Mississippi last night and hit 6 stores on the way out of town and 4 more once I got to Jackson. Made quite a haul but I've got an engine change in the works so I'll be able to make good use of it.

I hit 3 stores in the South Metrto Denver area and cleaned them out (24 qts.) I checked both the O'Reilly's and Advance Auto stores who said they price-matched other local stores, but when they saw the receipt at $1/qt., did a 180° and said that they couldn't match the price. My retort: "There's a difference between 'you can't' and 'you won't' match the Autozone price.
One of the Autozone store managers confirmed that he had been told that Valvoline is discontinuing this oil, so if that's the case, the other stores should be blowing out their stock before too long. Keep checking! |

Deet-da-dee. And I was proud of my 29...
Edit: you'd think this was something actually important, like Heady Topper or Pliney the Elder... |

Gents:
Check back at the stores. It seems that they are still getting deliveries of this oil. After scoring another 12 today, Autozone called me and said they got more in right after I left. I'm up to 30 qts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Stopped in the local AutoZone (Hampton VA) today and saw that they had Valvoline VR1 20w50 racing oil (the one w/ ZDDP) on sale for $1.00 per quart. Salesman said they were closing it out--he thought the sale was company-wide. I haven't seen it that cheap since I bought the 914 in the way-back days (back when oil came in cardboard cans). Hope this helps! Steve A- Grabbed 10 quarts in slc.. no more to be found... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Just picked up 6 more and ordered 24 additional from other stores in the area to be sent to this new store. Only see the 20w-50 so far. Could have got another 24 too, considering it.

There's a discussion on The Bird's 911 forum where some guys are seriously hoarding, and a lot of others are getting butt-hurt about it...actually really does remind me of the Heady/SoS/Pliney Warz...
I snagged enough for my two cars for a couple years (<4 qts street car, ~9 qts dry-sumped race car) but I found not only 20W-50 out there, but some 50W and 60W as well. So don't just ask them about VV211 20W-5 but ask to search inventory for 50W (VV235) and 60W (VV241). Sadly, Autozone's web site does not return hits for anything VR1- related, so you can't check store inventory online. But find a knowledgeable employee and thy can do a search (I've found many to be surprisingly cooperative, especially once they recognize you've got a pretty cool "scam" going on). I might run the straight-weight 50/60 in the street car that tends to run hot with low oil pressure in the summer, and run the multi-vis on the race car with the external cooler. |

I checked my local Autozone in Kirkland, Washington, and the manager told me they had stopped selling it a year ago, then showed me a new additive product they had just received that contained ZDDP. One can treats 5 quarts of motor oil.
