I'm not getting any love in Port Orchard. In fact, the price went up over $7

The gig may be up in my area. Stopped in at Autozone today for my weekly check on the $1.00 VR1. Clerk said they wouldn't have it at that price anymore and the new bottle was due out next week for $6.79/qt.
I was able to stockpile 51qts sweeping all the Autozone stores in a tri-county area. Thanks to the original poster for this info. Huge savings! $$$ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

I mentioned the outlawed VR 1 to my local store and he replied.."it's back". He has two cases waiting for me.....usual price I am sure. Oh well......at least I can change my oil again. Thank you all for your time and energy.

I checked our local store in Oakland last night and they were $6.99/Qt. Did you have the counter person scan the bar code or just read the price on the shelf? The counter people at my local store had no idea based on the shelf price, but once they scanned it, price dropped. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) So where is the evidence that California has banned high Zinc addittive oil. Internet hoax or misinformation? |

It's a labeling issue. CA banned "obsolete" oils, they have to meet one standard. Search on bobistheoilguy.com some time early last year; topic was "California bans obsolete oil" or similar.
That's why it's back on the shelves at the old price: all new stock has the correct label. Did you notice all the oils you bought had differing labels? I think Autozone was gifting us a way to clear out their old stock. |

So as long as the designation is compatable with an active API designation it can be sold in CA is my understanding. So the the stores could have the SA designation and still viable oil just a labeling issue. |

Yeah. I was done at 40, plenty enough for the two cars for a couple years. Then I got a call from my local place, all proud they got 20 more for me, so I grabbed those too.
You should check the expiration dates on those so they don't turn into vinegar on you. Bad bad bad for the engine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

I cleaned out my Autozone, too. First the Valvoline then the Autozone brand - $1/qt.
