Just to clarify, this isn't about the vendor, it's about the brand of the product. Terrycable is a safe buy.

I have had only positive experiences from Pelican over years and years... in my case I ordered 2 cables at once. one as maintenance for the race car the 2nd as a back up spare to carry to the race track. I broke one cable installing it thought it was a fluke, and put the 2nd cable on went to the track and after 10 minutes of track time, the cable bound internally and the throttle stuck wide open on track. this cable had 10 minutes of use on it from new. very very bad cables. brant |

A new spare Gemo is sitting in my cars trunk when I bought it. Guess I will toss it in the garbage and get a Terrycable as a spare instead. Thanks for the great info all.

another good option is the original equipment Porsche cable
I bought one after the 2 bad experiences I had ran it all last race season with zero problems |

Just to clarify, this isn't about the vendor, it's about the brand of the product. Terrycable is a safe buy. It is also about the vendor who knowingly or unknowlingly distributes product w/o due diligence for quality or it's intended use. Pelican is fine distributor of products who needs to bolster this area. I still buy from them but am cautious. I made a living off this weak point of distribution. |

This thread makes me sad, as the first part I bought for my car was the gemo cable. It seems to work fine, but if I routed it up through the proper hole in the tin, it wasn't flexible enough and would bind. I figured it was just an issue with the carb linkage setup, but maybe it's not.

I've found a stock cable just isn't long enough to reach my Tangerine carb linkage which I had to mount on the rear of the carbs to avoid interference with the engine tin (I have the short carb manifolds). I used motorcycle cable and bike housing & ferrels and it's been working great for the past couple years. Very smooth and nice routing due to the custom length. My only fear is what to do if it breaks on a trip...I really need to make a spare. They'll customize the 914 Cable per your request. Just tell them how long/short you want the sheath and/or the cable to be. The std 914cable was just a foot short for the Suby conversion so I asked and they made a 914 cable with a bit longer sheath and the cable was another foot longer. I figured it was just an issue with the carb linkage setup, but maybe it's not. Just had the same thing happen to me. when I installed the cable it was hard to get to feed smoothly through the tin and then the cable came loose at the ferrel (?) at the firewall. and the throttle would not return all the way. I ended up buying another one, that just happened to be a Gemo from someone off of fleabay. it fit good and works much smoother than the other one , that also had zero miles on it. I don't know what brand the old one was. Probably URO. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) I may have to look into these terry cables |

The Italian made Cofle brand cables are very good quality and work well. The Terry cables are heavy duty, but also have a lot more drag due to very thick cable.
