I've been to two "official" Saturday morning local SoCal PCA events here. Albeit, they both featured the 914 model, but the people for the most part couldn't have been nicer about our 914s. A few guys with really nice 911s talked to us about where they could get one, and asked for our advice. One sold an '83 red 911SC that was a $45,000.00 car and bought a $14,000.00 914.
He is currently here on our board and in the middle of a 911 conversion in this car. He couldn't be more stoked about a car. The whole "poor man's Porsche" idea about our wonderful cars is a thing of the past, it seems. |

The whole "poor man's Porsche" idea about our wonderful cars is a thing of the past, it seems. No its not Rich is right... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I think you are starting to see the tide turn, but how far will it go and how quickly is the question? I recall 15 or so years ago when I wanted a Carrera or an SC and was bummed that all I could afford were long hood early 70's 911s. I opted not to go that route as I wanted more power and I wanted later cars with galvanized bodies (and years later I have rusty 914s...). Anyway, that market changed radically and in all reality didn't take long. Now I wish I had that 911E. As long hood 911s have become collectors cars with associated prices, a lot of focus has fallen on later 911s, especially 3.2 Carreras. My Carrera is worth perhaps the low $40k range, but it stickered for approximately $33k in 1984. My '73 teeners stickered for approximately $5k and are worth mid-teens on the silver car and perhaps into the low twenties on the Revenna car once I finish it. If only the now "collectable" Carrera was worth 3-4 times its sticker price like the 914s! Anyway, time will tell, the collectors' market ebbs and flows, and often logic plays no part in it. |
