This is how I tackled the job.
I modified the tank to give me the chance to move the filler towards the center line of the bonnet more. The metal was so good to work with we just beat it into submission. I didn't want to weld anything onto such a big flat panel and warp it.

QUOTE(Marek @ Jun 10 2017, 02:41 PM) *

Hi guys

As I wrote in my for sale tread of the Hood pin kit

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=308364

We are working ( in final production ) on a "plug and play kit" with no welding requiered

I did the kit , most dealers sell like SMC, restoration design etc a good 5 years ago
http://www.sierramadrecollection.com/911-R...Kit-p25309.html

The kit will have the same Blau 110 mm cap and 5 hole fin

it will have the "dog bowl" overfill etc in basic all you need will be in the kit

To give you a idea how it works , you simply just screw it on ,
the kneck will have the correct angle to the hood and will line up at the same height

I cant show you all the secrets right now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) but you will like it for sure (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I will soon make a for sale tread ,we are just in final production packing these
,and we will be shipping these in august for sure , so dont spend all your cash on your girlfriend in the hollydays :-) priced ca at 350 EURO

Marek

Marek, did these kits go into production?

Thanks,
Tom

To answer your "gas security" question, it Is possible to mount the Blau cap and filler neck "around" the original, so that the standard 914 neck is still in place - then a locking fuel cap can be used under the Blau cap.

Having done something similar on my car (fiberglass hood), the biggest pain is centering the filler neck to the newly cut hole; even a few mm out looks "off". Maybe someone else on the forum has an optimum alignment method?

Peter Dawes did the fuel on number 41 a long time ago. The fuel door is from an airplane.

I like the under-hood fill. It gets tons of looks as first, people wonder why you're going under the hood then are surprised to see a trunk, and second, people wonder why you're putting gasoline in your trunk.

Except for racing, it's just "different". That's fine for me.

GA, still missing the old "flip the license plate down to fill" trick...

Bob-your filler is so cool! It's such a novel install using the camloc fasteners.

I'm looking at this one from 9xauto.com. (no affiliation) More of an access hatch rather than the actual cap of the tank, but looks like a cool option. I haven't tried it yet, but plan to soon. Attached Image

That may work but you need to change out the flush-head Dzus fastener to maybe a key or something so you do not need a screwdriver each time you need gas. $59 the price is good

It is not really Camloc fasteners but you push one button down the second button goes up and the door opens. There is an arm inside and pushing the second button down make it pressure lock.

The unlock is engraved open, and the loch is marked close. If I remember it right I have not touched it for 5 years.

It is not just a hinge but has a spring arm and a hinge. The PO had it up and tried to open the front hood and bent it up. E's body man fixed it up. NEW RULE Never open the hood when the gas cover is open.

That would be me...

The PO had it installed. Unfortunately I don't know what the unit came off of. It is well finished from the top, but a bit rough with on the back side.

I do get a lot of comments about it, surprisingly I've had many 914 guys (past and present owners) voice dislike as it breaks up a smooth hood. But it is nice nice filling up up w/o leaning under the hood.

Dayton, I grew up there.
