It is not really Camloc fasteners but you push one button down the second button goes up and the door opens. There is an arm inside and pushing the second button down make it pressure lock.

The unlock is engraved open, and the loch is marked close. If I remember it right I have not touched it for 5 years.

It is not just a hinge but has a spring arm and a hinge. The PO had it up and tried to open the front hood and bent it up. E's body man fixed it up. NEW RULE Never open the hood when the gas cover is open.

Bob B

Interesting. I was wondering why there were two buttons. Do you have any photos of the back side? I can envision how it works from your description, but the hardware is interesting-never seen anything quite like that.

Saw this at Hersey in 2016, And liked it.

Never found out who did it, would love to know.

That would be me...

The PO had it installed. Unfortunately I don't know what the unit came off of. It is well finished from the top, but a bit rough with on the back side.

I do get a lot of comments about it, surprisingly I've had many 914 guys (past and present owners) voice dislike as it breaks up a smooth hood. But it is nice nice filling up up w/o leaning under the hood.

Dayton, I grew up there.

So did I.

I liked the install, and does not break up the hood line more than a GT filler or the bolt on ones do.

I figure Each their own.

I have one of the little pop up units you see on motorcycles I am thinking about dropping on the cowl on the right side.

I also have a door from a Chevy Van that I got to doo the hood model.

And I have one of the bolt in units

And I have had GT fillers, I can do it all, and yet have done no of it.

I'm happy with my hood being my secure gas cap cover. Pulling the hood latch isn't hard. I just don't get the need to hack a hole in your hood for a street car. It's not "cool," it's less secure, it harms the originality, yada yada. But to each his own. If you go down this road, at least do it right so it doesn't introduce water into the trunk.

I'm looking at this one from 9xauto.com. (no affiliation) More of an access hatch rather than the actual cap of the tank, but looks like a cool option. I haven't tried it yet, but plan to soon.

That will look great on your motorhome.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Maybe an old beater motorhome. Please don't do that to a 914.

Hi guys

As I wrote in my for sale tread of the Hood pin kit

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=308364

We are working ( in final production ) on a "plug and play kit" with no welding requiered

I did the kit , most dealers sell like SMC, restoration design etc a good 5 years ago
http://www.sierramadrecollection.com/911-R...Kit-p25309.html

The kit will have the same Blau 110 mm cap and 5 hole fin

it will have the "dog bowl" overfill etc in basic all you need will be in the kit

To give you a idea how it works , you simply just screw it on ,
the kneck will have the correct angle to the hood and will line up at the same height

I cant show you all the secrets right now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) but you will like it for sure (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I will soon make a for sale tread ,we are just in final production packing these
,and we will be shipping these in august for sure , so dont spend all your cash on your girlfriend in the hollydays :-) priced ca at 350 EURO

Marek

Marek, did these kits go into production?

Thanks,
Tom

I love the look.
Collected the parts .....years ago.
Can do the work.
But things sometimes change.
The process of getting gas in a 914 is cool. It eliminates damage by careless attendants
The outside cap is too tempting to thieves or mischievous kids.
And as McMark says it saves a hood.
I'm sure Mareks parts will be beautiful. And a big time saver.
Maybe on some future project.

Simply a curious question: Why?
For real, after you think it through? Are you building a GT replica? I guess you answered that in your first post. But if that's all, then the real "why" still stands. It's just not practical, introduces a LOT of problems, and isn't cool in any way unless it's a GT clone that needs a fast fill on the track. But my $.01 is just that. Unless you have a real reason, it's a hood hack that will bite you seriously hard later.

Having said that, do to your car what makes you happy. I've done a ton of mods to previous cars that I wouldn't do again to the current/next ones. We all go through the phases. But today, 914s need to be taken more seriously before modding because of their appreciating value.

Rand,

In my case it's intended for a track, only car. We do endurance races, so ease of re-filling with jugs is important. Water infiltration and theft of fuel cap are not major concerns.

Vroom-vroom,

Tom

In that case, just hole drill into a fiberglass or carbon lid because you won't want to use the steel or worry about finish/waterproofing anyway! (I missed the importance of the question?)
Full respect. Just wanted to provoke thought. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I will look forward to following your races if you share here.

I will just give this little bit of thought to consider.. I buy, build cars for myself.. Thats what its all about.. For ourselves.. I think it looks neat. On the fence for myself but I personally don't care what others do to their cars. Its their car to do what they like with it..

I like the look but I probably won’t do it. Putting gas in the 911’s with a centerfill, at the shop, is a drag.
