I was wondering what fuel pump folks are using and like for a Carb conversion. Engine is a 2.0 upgraded to 2.3 with two Weber 44 IDF carbs.

I really need to do a write-up on this. PO put a Facet on the engine tins and the noise was irritating. I had it running once to warm it up, and it died, leaving the pump to drain the battery. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (Car would die sometimes as well.)
When I had the tank out to get to the wiper linkage, and decided to install the CB pump. I mounted the pump about where the 75-76 location is, and mounted the filter to the steering rack. For power, I installed one of these: http://www.revolutionelectronics.com/_Medi...in-2_med-2.jpeg Wired into the fuse panel, and attached to the Tach, all the wiring is short and up front. When you key up, the pump runs for 3 seconds to prime, then waits for a tach signal. If you crash your car, the pump stops running so you don't get drenched in fuel. So far, so good. Happy to get rid of that clicking! |

You could also do this by wiring a simple relay to the oil pressure switch, but it has no pre-run. you could get around this with dash mounted momentary switch to prime the pump. $5 plus some wire. Or you could use a fuel pump relay from a VW k-jetronic, uses the tach signal and has a simple 555 timer for pre-run. $27 plus some wire. you might be able to find one in a scrapyard. http://www.busdepot.com/321906059C |
