Started rebuild last September, not just a simple build. Dropped in motor after several set backs, and decided to eliminate the HE's for several reasons. Only to find out no way to bolt up cooling tins under the heads. Did I miss something, or is there a way I'm not seeing? At my age, I should be driving a golf cart instead of my 914!
Are the bottom cooling tins necessary to insure the engine doesn't run hot? Thanks to all who reply. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

They don't clip to the studs, they screw into the cylinder head and into the crankcase. They're up above the pushrod tubes (and have cut out sections that go above the tubes) pretty much tight against the cylinder fins.
It's very difficult to remove the head from the motor if you forget to remove those tins first. Don't ask how I know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) --DD |
