Have one from the '71 donor, not sure if it is worth anything?

Thanks for the education.

I pulled it off so hopefully this will help someone else at the car in the road.

What is a friends and family sort of price for a core? ( it may be OK for her I know but I don't have a way of testing it )

Bowlsby charges $25 for a core when he rebuilds an MPS.

Sorry, should of asked initially if this is off a 1.7 or 1.8? Is there an easy way to tell?

1.8 is L-jet so no MPS.

If you find a part number starting with 039, it's a 2.0 application, all else is 1.7.

Physically all 914 MPS are the same, only the internal adjustments vary for the specific engine and year application.

Not quite.
Early units have a different length spring extension in the casting than the rest. I'm not sure of how the update matches up to model & year.
Also, internally, the 2.0 units have a spacer ring which goes between the diaphragm and the part load stop plate to provide increased range between idle/part throttle and WOT.

TDskip...

The important part of the PN is the last three numbers, stamped into the case:

037 = 73 2.0L
049 = All 1.7s
043 = 74-76 2.0L

I do pay $25 for cores if you want to give new life to another 914.

Jeff, can you make an NOS 1.7 MPS into a 1973 2.0 type? If so what would you charge for the service? Thanks.
