This was on my 74 V8 car but I only have one. What do I do? Car has not been reg in CA for several years and in non opt. I do not want to pay high back registration costs to bring it current.

If you registered as PNO prior to the registration expiring (March 2009) then there are no back fees.

Dad's car was bought in early 1977 (secondhand) and assigned this plate. The car was originally sold in Oklahoma.

Interesting Ed. I included it as a book end for the list. Still Blue/Gold and disclosed as a 1977 issue. Nice.

More like RobW Jeff. I can dig out the exact date my Dad bought it from a dealer 2nd hand in 1977 if you need it.

Duh, I reregister it every year in December... so the plate is from December 1977.

Here are the plates on my 1970 San Fernando garage find. The PO worked at GM in Van Nuys California building Camaros.

See the date on sticker 1985 same as #41 but not anywhere near as nice when found

Here is the YOM form you will need at DMV

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/wcm/connect/8...pdf?MOD=AJPERES

My DMV told me that for the YOM plate that for 1970 and newer the correct year sticker was NOT needed ? As long at it was 6 characters (or even 7 for 1980).
That would make sense as annual registration would have got a new "year sticker".
So you just need a "Blue plate" with any 6 characters..
The number / letter sequence to be any 6 characters (and following the info here better if it was the correct actual sequence)
Can anyone confirm that ?

My experience was different. Pleasanton DMV. Sometime I will write up all they put me through to get my YOM plates approved. Suffice it for now to say they did require to inspect two identical plates, with one having the correct (for the car model year they would be applied to) year reg sticker attached and visible. I had originally submitted the correct 1974 plates but with a later sticker and which after several weeks in Sacramentos's hands, were rejected. Same plates submitted later with the correct 1974 sticker - approved. BTW the form they have with the requirements listed, does not include this sticker requirement. GRrrrrr...

Interesting Jeff...
The year sticker requirement just doesn't make sense to me as the annual registration would move up that each year.
I found this from the CA legislature. (nothing about stickers there )
AND verbiage about "old car hobbyist" being a resource for validating year sequence of plates ! I am thinking the list would be a great tool. This data base may be much more needed and powerful than you thought.

Regardless, you can buy the sticker for the year that you require on Evil Bay.

I believe these are original to my 1974

This looks like a 1977 issue too. The car was likely brought into CA at ~3 years old, in 1977, so it would be a 49-state car. If you you can confirm I will add it to the list.

That's odd, since the car was originally sold in So. Cal, and I bought from 2nd owner who bought it in 82. It's a CA original car, but yeah, after looking at it, the plate isn't original, according to the website I looked at. Interesting though. It has SOME smog on the original engine, but not sure what came stock and what didn't (had the charcoal canister )

Is this car a 1975 model or a 1976 model, with a late 1975 VIN date and can you be certain this is the original CA plate for this car when brand new? I ask because the plate is a little later than the other 1975s and there were 1976 models that have an earlier plate.
