I am just getting tired of all the negative comments. There are a few of us that really know what is going on and the rest who are just guessing. I am not sure, but don't you think he has seen this thread and is choosing to not reply for his own reasons. I all reality, he doesn't have internet access at home and doesn't have time during the day at work. Give the man a break.

Folks... the bottom line is that Brad does not owe any one on this community anything... period. Clearly the debt is us for him. many of the tidbits and information he has provided freely are the things that many in the industry use to earn a living and we got this information by starting a thread.

Many of us that have come in direct contact with Brad, owe him for his unselfishness and when we were in need. I for one owe him for helping me get my car back and running this year.

Brad... if you do read this message... all the best in your endeavors... may your future be smoother then the last several months have been. I still owe you a dinner... it is the least I can do.

I now think it is time to let the man ride off into the sunset... he will return if he wants to and when he wants to.

I have a tad bit of understanding of what Brad is going through with and I do think that many people are giving him a hard time while he is going through a harder time on a much more important scale.

I have gotten a bit of the short end of the stick from Brad as well through this period of time (nothing the forum needs to know about) that he vanished but I will say that I cannot blame him for the disappearance.

To be quite honest I have gotten tired of forums myself, tired of making posts to share information that end up starting brawls and tired of my knowledge being second guessed and then stolen by some worthless son of a bitch that also steals my products and sells them.

The days of free information are over fellas- I did it for 7 years and all it did was land me in a melting pot of bullshit with stolen ideas, information and products.

So, don't be giving Brad hell for leaving or doing whatever he has had to do to keep his head above water. I am out a bit from his actions and lack of communication but i feel confident that as soon as he is capable he will call me up and make it good- and I'll bet he will do the same for each of you as well.

From now on my information will be sold- not posted online and I DARE any worthless son of a bitch working from his garage to steal it and call it his own. Be thankful that you had guys like Brad and myself at your disposal until we got smart!

Now- I'm going back to work

This is really unfortunate.

Jake, if you can discount whatever you're going through with (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/stromberg.gif) I would hope you'd see that you received something from the forums as well. I would hope that maybe you got a few customers, made a few business contacts, or maybe just some friends. I'd also hope that maybe you had to repeat the same information a few less times because someone here said "Search the archives, it's been discussed and Jake commented on it." Perhaps you got to answer questions when you wanted and had a few less phone interruptions in your day.

All of the above might be (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/bs.gif) and I'm way off base. I've never run a business and I know I tend to be an idealist. If I'm wrong please don't tell me, I like living in my world of perfect circles. Regardless, thanks for all your input. I would love to buy an engine from you someday for a project that's been on my mental to-do list for a number of years now; and I can't imagine what you'll have accomplished with the Type4 by then.

And then there's Brad. This is going to sound like a eulogy, but I miss not having Brad around. For the past 5-ish years we've lived within range of the same radio stations. We've shared more than a few meals together where I got to run an unending stream of stupid ideas past him; he would tell me that he's heard or seen most of them before and why they did or didn't work; but he always encouraged me (and others) to keep thinking and trying to come up with something new and cool. He let me come up to his shop and help him (i.e. learn from him); and he helped me with my projects. He gave me parts. He introduced me to Rich Bontempi as his friend, I could easily have met Rich on my own but it means something more to be introduced by a friend, as a friend.

And while I'm at it, here's a nice side-story. Rich is often at HPH on Saturdays until 2PM selling parts and for quite a while Brad was there helping him. On occasion we'd go to lunch afterwards; this was another benefit of being Brad's friend, casual dining with a nationally ranked race car driver. One Saturday I was up there without Brad for some reason and we end up doing lunch as we had a few times before. At some point for some reason I (playing the lead role as Dumbass) start spouting off about being tired of Brad's (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/bs.gif), making promises and not delvering, blah blah blah. Rich looks at me squarely and says "well I'll tell you what, I think he's a hell of a nice guy for helping me out every Saturday and not asking for anything in return." I don't remember much of the conversation after that. I just had this feeling in my gut that I may have just ruined a friendship I obviously didn't deserve; and that I had never really understood my friend in the first place. If you're reading this, I'm sorry and wish I had said it sooner. There are other stories but you get the idea.

Bottom line, Brad's already forgotten more about Porsche's and racing than I will ever know (and he's younger and better looking!). If he has a fault it's probably that he gives too much of himself (as long as we're delivering a eulogy we might as well go for sainthood). If anything I'm jealous that he's found what he was meant to do with his life and he's doing it, while I'm still trying to figure that out for myself. Keep it up, it will pay off (I'm the idealist, remember).

Personally, I think leaving the 914club for a while is a good thing for Brad, and for his sake, I hope he doesn't return any time soon...

Yes, he could have just said goodbye before leaving
Not because he owes any of us an explanation (or anything else for that matter), but it would have prevented a thread like this to raise it's ugly head
I guess Brad's just weird that way...

I consider Brad a friend (and I don't consider many people that) and honestly hope things will work out for him for a change.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass.

The admins will curb this thred if it gets out of hand...

I don't know WTF is wrong with some of you guys. Most of us as adults have been through difficult times and have needed time away from things to get our lives together. Every single one of us should have some degree of empathy with Brad. We should all be able to look past his actions and feel compassion for a friend who's going through a difficult time. Everyone reading this thread should be thinking of how they can help a friend. By his actions and some hearsay Brad wants some space. Cut him some slack.

You guys remind me of a teenage boy who just got dumped. What good does an explanation from Brad do anyway? Do you guys need it to satisfy your curiosity? No one has a right anybody else's motivation for an action unless that action causes them harm. So who's going to stand up and claim to be the first person harmed by Brad walking away from here? Live with it!

Let's enjoy what we have the way it is and go on.

Jenny, I am sure Brad has just hit terminal burnout and his new job is something he can focus on along with straightening out the rest of the mess. Remember, men can't do more than one thing at a time.....
He will call in awhile after things start to work out and he can breath and sleep again at night.

I know he's got his own (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/stromberg.gif) to deal with. And I've also come to realize that patience is a virtue when dealing with Brad. I know he's had it up to his eyeballs with 914s. I've talked to him plenty about it. I told him it'd be a good idea to take a break. He's been (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif) off and on with my tranny since the #4 incident went down the end of Feb. The sun's shining, my 914's shining, I just wish I could drive it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) In due time...

Wow. The depth of the support here is unbelieveable. We may get in petty arguments that seem really important at the time, but they usually blow over. Everyone helps a member in trouble, and that's why this board is different.

Brad will be back. How could anyone stay away? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)

Wow...

I'm not a 914 owner but joined so that I could contact Brad after working with him in the .Bomb days. I just poked back in today to see how he was doing since he disappeared mid-conversation (was just before his arrest but I didn't know about it until coming here today).

Of course I was pinging him to see if he'd kept his skills up and maybe he (or Lyrissa) was looking for a DBA/SysAdmin job at the company I was starting.

Brad didn't know me, and I didn't know Brad (aside from reading his informative posts here).
I asked him a few questions trying to understand the how/why/what of getting my 915 to shift. Not only did he take the time to answer my questions, he invited me to come by HPH on a Sunday when he would be installing the engine/transaxle in the Tube-car so I could see the WEVO unit first hand. I made the trip to Redwood City that Sunday, met Brad, and Britain, and the tube cars owner (sorry, forgot his name). After getting my questions answered and getting a first-hand tour of the transaxle, and the options I hung around chatting about Porsches and racing, handing these guys the wrenchs they needed and trying to stay out of the way.
I ended up spending the whole afternoon so I could hear that beast fire up. After helping push it into the trailer Brad offered for me to join them at dinner. That afternoon really cemented my appreciation for this community.

Brad, I hope your current and future endevours bring you happiness. Your contributions to all of us aspiring 914 nuts has been fantastic. Thank you. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/pray.gif)

Jake,
I have followed your postings with great interest. You have helped me to better understand the type IV and some of what goes into building a good one. I'm very sorry that your generousity has resulted in difficulty. Some day I too hope to install one of your engines. Until then I will have to hope that at some point you choose to continue your contribution to our understanding of these unique automobiles. To you too Jake, Thank you. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/pray.gif)

To everyone who has contributed to this forum and to my better understanding the issues involved with these rust-buckets, Thank you as well. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)
