I installed these springs in my V8 914 last week...

I was surprised, however, that they were shorter than the stock springs... those are performance products 100 lb springs, for your v8 I would install 180 progressive springs

we had made exact replicas of the original 914 springs, and 914-6 springs. Both are the same length , the 914-6 springs have thicker coils.
Very important to match spring rates to keep the stock factory tuned performance. They knew what they were doing so who are we to improve upon that. However in modified situations, like yours, or for racing, different springs are required. These days everyone with a stock car wants to keep it stock so returning the car to the factory configuration. If you have a stock car, do not waste your money on anything BUT the factory rate springs. |

Thanks, George.
I was going for a near stock look with the nose down a little rather than up. These springs gave me what I was looking for. The car will never be a great handler due to my desire to not modify the body and to have stock looking wheels and tires (but it sure does scoot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ). It looks like this now... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm5.staticflickr.com-20876-1542658212.1.jpg) A little hard to get the full effect with the bumpers, valances and rocker covers off. |

Weltmeister, who used to be part of Automotion, that was sold to Performance Products, that I think was sold to someone else?
Anyway, they should be 100 lb/in, and shorter than stock. Stock springs were on the order of 50-65 lb/in, depending on which version. You can work out the rates from some of the info in the factory manuals, though it takes some math and you have to work out what exactly they are specifying in each section of the manual. --DD |
