These look pretty good except no VW or Hella logo. Has the chrome trim has anyone tried them?

The problem I've found with ones like these is the indentations on the ends that "click" into the metal tabs in the back pad are too shallow. They are made for a direct click into sheet metal like a bug roof panel. Ours need to be deeper into the housing (closer to the surface of the light) to account for the thickness of the vinyl, padding, particle board AND the metal tabs the fixture ultimately clicks into.

Who makes a repro that works?

yup we have plenty of these, 9.50 each but not correct. Have to file a notch deeper in the side to have it click in
So many of these are made now all different, we investigated making a perfect copy but very expensive to do and the market is saturated with cheap retros that just do not work correctly.

Even the one from Porsche does not work properly NOR work correctly

Mike & All - all 3 mentioned so far aren't really correct look either - aside from fit.

That one has the wrong size & shape white button more of the early 1960's Beetle/etc. era look, & I'm not sure that the clips will actually work to attach it.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.bughaus.com-10181-1543515375.1.jpg)

PS - VW Heritage calls it 1954 - 69 Beetle application:
https://www.vwheritage.com/111947111c-inter...e-edge-vw-spare

They carry the later "E" version with black button (out of stock right now), & the chrome version ends in "D" FYI -
https://www.vwheritage.com/111947111e-inter...-light-vw-spare

SMC's doesn't appear to have the "chrome" painted rim.

The 914Rubber one is a black button by EMPI.

AFAIK they still sell the Hella (Mexico) black button ones which do fit well as the 914 replacement/superseded part (i.e.: as used on the 74-76 MY 914s), which is what I'd use over all of these.

IIRC there was a correct or close-to-correct white button with "crhome" paint rim one sold by "Oldtimer", "Newtimer" or some seller name like that on German evil-bay, which may be worth checking out (they also sell the repro 914 visor + pins/brackets sets).

PS - IIRC this is the one noted above -

Unless you want a stock look, I'd suggest and LED replacement light.

Doesn't run as hot and produces real light instead of the stock candleflicker ouput.

If it fits a beetle, it's not going to work on a 914 without modifying it.

Ha Ha,knew you would find something, king of NOS on here is Mark...no dispute (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) .
I'am forever amazed @ the crossover within the VW group, lots of parts moving around to other models ,I think we will soon get the the stage we can't buy these anymore (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) .
I guess if you have a good one put an LED in it and save it from certain crumpling of the clear plastic (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) .

The best choice after a flat white switch/chrome edge original.
