Why the difference between the 901.631.601.01 license light...

Attached Image

...and the 901.631.601.00

Attached Image

Both say they are for the early (70-74) 914s.

Dick,

The top one looks like the one used for the rear trunk inside light, while the bottom pair are the license lights for the early 70-74 metal bumper 914s (75-76 rubber big bumpers have different half-round hood ones that go on the sides of the license).

I think that the in-trunk light is the same P/N as the 911/912 license light, so they tend to get mis-titled for the use in 914s.

PS - the trunk inside use is for all MYs 70-76 in the 914s.

Different part numbers.
The 911 license plate lamp is used on 914s as a engine compartment light.
The early 914 license light is a completely different design.
They are not interchangeable.

I bought the .01s from AutoAtlanta. They are shown as the license lights for a 914

I'll return them.

Not surprising.
Typical George Hussey sleight-of-hand
It is a license plate light......just not for a 914
Now you have to jump through hoops to return them.
Refund ? don't hold your breath.

Call george directly and explain the problem. Must be a 'rookie' issue in the parts dept as anyone who has opened a 914 rear trunk or replaced a REAL 914 plate light knows the dif.

this one pictured is a license plate light for a 911 through 73 or a trunk light for a 914. We make the 914 license plate lights, an excellent piece as b91463160100

I know that now, but I needed license plate lights and ordered them trusting the description..."License plate light with bulb #1559 for Porsche 911. 912, 914."

I am doing a chrome bumper conversion to a 1976 and didn't have anything to compare the picture with. It would probably be good to change the description so other 914 rookies aren't misled.

George,
The screen shot I posted is from your site and what I ordered from. I changed the quantity to 2 and clicked "add to cart". It says "License plate light with bulb #1559 for Porsche 911. 912, 914."

If the description is correct on another place on your site, that's good. It probably should be correct everywhere, however...especially on the screen that the customer uses to order the part.

If this is partially my fault because I should know my car better than I do or because I should have done more research on your site, no big deal. I can't use them and I'd like to return them even if I have to pay return freight and a restocking charge. I've had good luck ordering parts from you. Good stuff, good prices, fast shipping. I won't let one little problem stop me from continuing with AA.

I've had nothing but positive transactions with George & his staff. They've made owning a 914 so much easier. Thank you George.

well we will do some research and find out why the mixed description. Those of course ARE license plate lights, but just for the 65-73 911 models. the exact same part is a 914 trunk light as previously stated, so the description can be easily confused by our computer geeks. Thank you for calling it to our attention and we will find where the mistake is somewhere on the site and correct it. 90163160100 911 license plate light 65 -73 OR 914 trunk light 70-76

91463160100 914 license plate light 70-74 91163162004 74-89 911 or 76-76 914 license plate light. so you can see that it can be confusing!!!

Again...the 75-76 versions are for the rear rubber bumper covers. Not similar to the trunk light either.

Computer geeks should not be writing 914 copy unless they know wth they are writing about.
