Nitrous Oxide CAN do the same thing....my dad is a oral surgeon and i had druggie kids always wanting me to bring some Nitrous. If mixed right, it is a very affective antistetic (sp) but can be easily and dangerously abused. |

Sorry bud, That is a dramatic overstatement of the questionable conclusions from a DEA funded study that found some evidence of brain activity alteration in subjects under the age of 16 who consumed pot at a level that would place them in the estimated highest 1/10 of 1% of marijuana smokers. Further, all but 2 of those whom displayed brain chemistry changes had a confirmed family history of mental illness. I have read the actual study, not just the just the synopsis exerpts that were released by the Department of Justice, which interestingly were sent out in a form that very few news outlets realized the press release had been produced by the Federal govermnent. If a pharmaceutical company submitted a study of the same size and quality, it would be summarily dismissed as meaningless. More than 20 major university studies have had their funding pulled by the goverment in the last 15 years because the clear trend in the data was to show no ill effects from marijuana use that fell within the normal range of standard deviations. This study is the first government funded study since 1990 that was allowed to reach publication. One would have to be rather naive to believe the cause and effect are not related. (BTW, I was involved in drug study review and approval for Hoffman LaRoche Pharmaceuticals in the mid 1990's, and I currently represent a client in an unrelated matter that requires me to keep informed on this issue. I am NOT advocating one way or the other.) |

How many of us know people who are noticeably "slower" after years of marijuana use/abuse? I draw my conclusions from what I've seen and try not to rely on "official" reports. There is always a bias.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) don't underestimate the ability of kids to understand the dangers. of course, that implies that someone educated them about said dangers ... i grew up surrounded by people using drugs. all the crap you can imagin (and some you can't). i chose a lifestyle that put me right in the middle of it all. and believe it or not, i *never* did any drugs in my life. it's a choice, and you can help your kids making the right choice. and i don't think "making them promise not to do drugs once a week" was the right approach ... Ok a little humor about this. A high school classmate was carefully sniffing the NO2 from a can of whip cream. You have to get the nozzle just right to ONLY get the gas. Anyway this guy starts gagging because the whip cream shot up his nose... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) and stopped his abuse. |

I hate to sound callous... but this is chlorine for the gene pool.

OK, enough with the gene pool BS. The kid was 14. Maybe you were all perfect at 14. I wasn't and I doubt too many others are. It's a damn shame these things happen and I really don't think I can even come close to what the relatives are thinking. For me it would be devastating at the very least. No parent should watch their kids die! I will be talking about this to my kid tonight. Enough said.

Wow. You're all a bunch of heartless bastards! I can't believe you're going to put this on the 14 year old! There is no fucking way a 14 has enough sense to really know all the ramifications of his or her actions. Holy crap I can't believe what I'm hearing. If it were at all true that a 14 could actually have the wisdom / experience / risk-aversion / common-sense to make judgements like you guys are claiming they should be able to do then why the fuck don't we let them vote or drive or get married or drink or whatever... I'm so fucking shocked at your responses I don't know what to think! And who would have thought this was coming from the same people that mourned poor ^EASTON^ and his family!!! You should all be fucking ashamed of your cold, heartless, asshole selves!!!
Just to add a little scientific note.... I just heard recently (and yes I'm going to spend the next hour trying to find the reference) of a study that showed a particular immaturity in the brain of teenagers that actually affects their ability to judge risk. Holy crap I'm so pissed right now I can't even keep typing. |

Alright, Pandora's Box is open!!!!
All of us, AT THE VERY LEAST, one? time in our live's, has done something stupid. But the STUPID people, do stupid over an cver. As Forrest Gump Says: STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES. Like my kid, when he does something stupid, I ask him if he went to his Drug dealer? He says he doesn't use drugs, and I say you have to be getting those Stupid pills your taking from somebody (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/happy11.gif) The thing about kids, it's bad enough they do stupid things, but what makes it worse, they do because of peer pressure, or because it's cool. So what can you do? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif) And it's a very sad thing, for parents to out live there kids. I have 2, daughter 25 and a son 22, my daughter's great my son, I think he has and unexhaustable supply of stupid pills. |

EASTON HAD NO CHOICE! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif) Yes I am going to put this on a 14 year old. When you grow up is a matter of your environment. If this kids parents or life situation demanded that he be responsible and had that from the day he was born, this MIGHT not have happened.
Our society spends so much time looking for some sickness or something else to blame for a persons poor choices or judgement. This kid and all like him screwed up. Nobody put the can in his hand. Everyone warned him. If he has not seen the results of putting a foreign substance in your body by this age then he has lived a sheltered life and severely hindered in his personal development. It is time for this planet to start taking responsibility for it's personal mistakes. No one is to blame for someone elses lot in life. That is a crock.
This from a group that is trying to remove the personal responsibilty from murder. Losing credibility as they speak. At 14 years old I had a mans job and was responsible enough to know that putting something in my body that doesn't belong there was not smart. I turned down smoking at 10 because "DAMN that just ain't real intelligent". There are studies that show all kinds of crap. You can see the results you want to see, I don't care how objective you claim to be. Now I am pissed. Probably shouldn't post this but I started this and I take responsibility for it.
