Ok no expert here but shouldn't the last 2 digits be 10 for an RS wheel? |

Ok no expert here but shouldn't the last 2 digits be 10 for an RS wheel? It’s a 914 hub, not a 911 hub. So it works, just not perfectly. The chamfer where the hub sits on the steering shaft is different between 911 and 914 hubs. By drilling and taping two small holes in the back, the cancel ring can be fitted and splines are the same but it doesn’t fit properly to the shaft. Good may be good enough and many are sold and used this way but .... |

ST/R/RS/RSR & 914 STEERING WHEELS 914 347 803 10: 70/71 914-4 plastic base for original ST/R/RS/RSR 914 347 804 10: early 4s, flat hub/sunk hub 914 347 804 11: late 4s, sunk hub/flat back – plastic rim 914 347 805 10: early 4s & 6s, leather, flat hub/recessed back (best) 914 347 805 11: ’72 914-4 w/ 90 degree sunk hub/flat back 86mm grip 914-4 914 347 806 10: Leather -6 Original RS wheel w/ 72mm grip 914 347 806 11: 91mm grip 914 347 088 10: very early VW/Porsche leather wheel 914 347 809 00: ‘74 914s, sunk hub/ faux leather 901 347 081 10: extremely rare 400mm thick grip leather all cross-stitch http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/sh...heels-THE-TRUTH That chart is not correct. The 803 10 wheel was a six only wheel. Never used on a 4. The 805 10 was an early four wheel. Never used on a six. The early S guys compile the charts based off of what sellers list in their ads, not what is really true. I’ve never seen or heard of an 806 11 but it could be from a ‘72 914-6 since it used a vw column. I’ll take some pics of the different steering shafts but I can assure you the Porsche and VW shafts differ and the Porsche factory never used a VW style hub on a Porsche column. Just making the 911 turn signal cancel ring fit on a vw style hub doesn’t mean the wheel fits the car. |

@mepstein The stepped splines on the rear designate a VW column correct?
1972 914-6 came with a VW column, correct? His screen shot of the parts catalog would designate the 914 347 805 11 as both for 914-4 and 914-6 but it would that make it incorrect RS wheel. |

Dates are very important for the guys that care about accuracy. I don’t (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) There are a lot of RS “style” wheels built from all different models and years. There are a couple people with RS cars with real wheels. The ‘72 914-6 was a short run production. I’m pretty sure they used 805 11 but that doesn’t really make an 805 11 a “universal” 914-6 wheel, just one for that year. |

My narrow grip RS wheel for visual reference. Fairly sure the 70 and 71 -6 wheel is physically the same, bar the date stamp GLWTS See there's no step in the rear of the splines, that's what makes it a 911 or 70-71 914 wheel And flat on the front and the horn cancel ring is recessed into back of the wheel, unlike a mid year/late 914 wheel. |

Is that "1 73" on the back of the hub in the middle pic a date code? If so.... - MR |
